Scotchguard convertible top

Scotchguard convertible top

Postby austinsolara » Sun Jun 27, 2004 8:55 am

It appears that no one in my area has any idea what products can be used to protect our tops. Whatever the manufacturer put on the top wore off in a year. The local convertible experts were no help (this is who the dealer uses). Thinking about trying Scotchguard since it works on every other fabric known to man. The Toyota manual only has a warning about staining or discoloring the top. Figure this will not be a big deal since mine is black......

Any suggestions???

I don't know much about the scotchguard, but get a car cover. This is the best way to protect the top.

when the car is parked, buying a cover is a good way to protect damage.

most of the damage is done when the car sits under the sun.

i would hold off to scotchguarding b/c i think it would rub off, due to the any speed the car goes. but hey, give it a shot, it wont hurt, at least i dont think.

I wasn't sure about it, but Junest just told me that our car did get the scotchguard treatment. Toyota of North Hollywood included it with the interior. They believe it will help in keeping the top in good shape, especially in rain. I do notice when we wash the car the water literally runs off the top. Just a swipe of the towel and it's pretty much dry. I do suggest it if you do get a lot of rain/moisture.
