BRAKE LIGHTS

BRAKE LIGHTS

Postby Keg-Of-Iron » Tue Jul 06, 2004 8:11 pm

Hey guys, Friday I had my "check brake light " come on. I found out it was my left one and replaced the light today. Unfortunately it still didnt work. Has anyone had this problem and if so, what was your remedy? Also, will I get a ticket for this? I have the spoiler brake light too so I am thinking I wont but does anyone know for sure? Thanks in advance...

Check all your lights, brake, running, reverse, turns. The light isn't specific to brakes.

Well my running lights and blinkers work. I am thinking it is a fuse.

there's a check brake light?

i thought the only "brake" light was red and in the middle of the gauge cluster.

if it is the one im talking about, you may need to fill the brake fluid, or replace/check the actuall brakes.

ps... still interested in the fuel pump?

Theres two check brake lights.

The first is the same as the parking brake..may mean you need new pads or need to check your fluid.

The second is the rear brake light indicator, which is the one I think hes talking about. That one looks like a car with lines in the back. That one means one of your rear lights are out. If you replace it and it still doesnt light up, maybe check the fuses. Im not sure if the fuses for the sides are linked. You can also check the contact inside the socket for the bulb and see if that has any problem.

^^ what he said..you need two people for checking this, one inside the car depressing the brakes, and the other checking to see if all dual-fillament bulbs in the rear light up. checking this yourself can be confusing.

Bulb type?

Postby TRD_solaRa » Tue Jul 20, 2004 12:23 pm

I have this same damn problem now . . . as my driver's side rear brake light has gone out. What kind of bulb (name/part#/etc.) does it need? And where did you get it from? Also, was it hard to replace it? Thanks guys.

BTW, to answer your question Keg-Of-Iron . . . HELL YES you can get a phat ticket . . . if the cop chooses to pull you over

I had the same problem. My passenger side brake light kept going out. After replacing it three times I haven't had any problems in a month or two. I don't know if I got bad bulbs or what.

As far as difficulty of replacement I'd rate it a -1 on a scale of 1 to 10. Remove 2 nuts, pull the panel out, remove the bulb, replace it, and you're done. 5 minutes tops. Don't recall the bulb number off the top of my head, it's in the owner's manual or any part store will be able to tell you which bulb to use.
Please stop humping my car, owner privilege!

Thanx Jon. Is it the same for the front blinker lights as well?

I'm never good with bulb numbers, i usually open the tabs/panal on the rear at the parts store and carry the burnt out bulb with me and get the matching mate. I try and stick with name brand bulbs (slyvania, ge). I know my sis replaced with no-name brand bulbs on our ES and i go in everytime and replace her bulbs. you get what you pay for!

Front blinkers are 1157 (similar to 3157, but with a round base)

Reverse and 3rd brake light (for models w/o spoiler) are 921, just to cover everything.

I think these always sell in pairs, except specialy ones like the ones from APC. I just got a pair of sylvania 3157LLs for my rear brake lights since one's high filament died on me a few days ago
