30,000 mile check up?

Postby Flipside909 » Tue Nov 26, 2002 12:01 pm

LOL. Longo Toyota (World's Largest Toyota Dealer) in El Monte just mailed me a notice to get my 70,000 mile service done. Geeze, last time I checked, there's no 70k service listed in the books. Just another ploy to get the un-informed customer to spend more money. :(

"Dear Valued Customer, we think your car is at 70k miles, please setup an appointment for these services. We need your money! We greatly appreciate your continued business and look forward to serving you".

Yup that's what they wrote in a nutshell lol. But yeah, if it wasn't for those frequent services, they would have never gotten the money to put in that full service Starbucks in their facilities along with a "entertainment room" and even a "business center" for the customers to use. Just imagine, a full serivce Starbucks in the convenience of a Toyota dealer. Amazing!

just for kicks... i went looking around and found this.

http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/maintenance/articles/43780/article.html

and it mentions everything that has been said. the last line:
"In any event, you must decide what you can and are willing to do, and if you would rather pay a little now for maintenance or big bucks later for repairs. "

so redsolara, you'll have to decide on your own. you're the one driving your car and paying for it.

Right. So if you feel it's best to pay $80 an hour for a Toyota mechanic to change all the replaceable parts within an hour..and an extra 2-3 hours for him to look at parts and check off a list and give it another few hours to sit on the rack or in the lot...go for it.

I love where I live. It's in the mid 70s and there's no snow on the ground to deal with. Sucks for those who are suckered into dealership profit. Glad it didn't take you that long to spend that much money in short time. :)

i have no problems going to my dealership. i got a discount on my new car... discounted parts and installation.. and discounted service. and just because i'm willing and able to pay for service doesn't make me a sucker.

it true to say that all dealers are out to make as much profit as they can, but it's not true to say that all dealerships suck. there are some dealers that actually care and wanna help..i'm sure they're all pressured to find reasons to charge more, but not all of them will do it. the same is true of customer service at dealers...some don't give a care about their customer..they just want your money, other dealers literally will become such buddy buddy with their customers that they know them by first name and know about each other's families just through coverstation. kinda funny to see the drastic difference between a dealer that is a jerk and then a dealer that caters to the cust even after their car is over 3years old and they have no intention of buying another one.

That's great you have a good relationship with your dealership. Discounted huh? You acutally paid for that from all your services. I get discounted parts at cost...not a 10 or 20% discount. Discount on your new car? I can do better than that...it's called fleet department and paying around or at invoice without the salesman b/s and his commission.

Will you ladies quit bickering?! (no offense to the real ladies) Check it out. Yes you should get your car serviced. I probably wouldn't recogmend taking to the dealer because as many people have already stated they charge you alot for "inspections" You definatly are in need of a air filter change. Plugs and everything else should be good for another 60 miles. I'd probably do a radiator flush soon and check your brakes for wear. If you don't feel comfortable doing any part of this then GO SEE A MECHANIC! If you feel comfortable spending $275, going to the dealer gives you good piece of mind. Ryan is right, not every mechanic is a "toyota god" but I am sure all of them have done enough 30k tune-ups to be proficent at them. So the choice is up to you.

Now lets get back to something important. Like PERFORMANCE!
