Toyota Oil Filters???

Oil filter study

Here's a site to chew on regarding filter quality.

http://www.frankhunt.com/FRANK/corvette ... study.html

Regarding Fram filters. I have a 98 Ford Explorer with the SOHC engine. Apparently the Fram filters allow oil to drain down from the top of the engine and over time can damage the cam tensioner assembly. I had always used Frams until hearing this potential problem and decided right then and there to do a 2500mi oil change and to use Motorcraft filters. I figure a little money spent now will save an expensive engine repair in the future.

Regarding the motor mount on my 2002. If your looking under the hood facing the engine, the drain hole is located as far down inside the well (closest to the engine block) and as far right (drivers side) as possible. I believe the well is tapered so the oil would drain to the right. Looking at the mount, it would appear to be a simple replacement if nothing else had changed. I figure the mounting hole on the block would be the same, but the mount itself could have changed. A simple bottle jack to lift the weight of the engine off the mount then replace the mount. I did this before on a rear motor mount on my 87 Mazda 626.

It sure is surprising that it took Toyota this long to come up with a hole to solve a problem made in 94. You would think the service bay at Toyota dealerships must have complained about this before 2002.

Anyway, thnaks for the help.
