I would upgrade to the generation 2 (04-06) in an auto if you're goijng to have to go with the auto because it'll move out. Although I guess supercharging the old auto would be a good option too, the gen 2's have almost no aftermarket support so if you're going that route looking to mod she'll be SOL.

I just realy think that despite shifitng situations she'll be disappointed with the auto vs the manual in the older solaras... 136 whp vs 157 whp (and the fun of 5spd) Having owned both I say stick with a 5spd if at all possible, and if her shifting scenario won't allow that, then get a gen 2 auto... it would be more fit as a relaxed daily driver that still has some nasty get up and go and she'll still have her 600 for when she wants to race.

The Solara V6 has 225 horsepower, not 136 or 157!

Of course, you were probably talking about an old one.. The new one has 225...sorry.

He was also talking about whp (wheel horsepower), not hp at the crank.

Still haven't purchased anything yet !!!!
Unfortunately... she won't be riding her bike anytime soon..... can't shift her car really well..... definetly can't ride her bike!!!

So far we've test drove a few convertibles 00-03 and she loves em.... the power feels the same, Also an 05-06, still didn't want NEW, liked the car the shape hasn't grown on us...now we're looking for that STEAL.... its hard parting with our car being car nuts & she wants it to go to a good home, (are we K R A z Y) so I'll be posting pics here soon!!!!

Came across these on ebay..... don't think I'm gonna deal with the salvage thing but the offer seems good if it stays under 14k I was goin nuts when I saw it at 6k

One thing we've done (unfortunately again) while I was comparing a Volvo S60R for my next purchase, we drove a C70 HT Convertible which had more power & felt great, prices are comparable with my beat em down skills (LOL) we can compare an 00-01 Volvo to 02-03 Solaras. Jus seems like another good car, Not COMPLETLY sold but we like the Volvo alot. For right now we're still looking!!!!

you're going to be looking at a very long 2nd gear in an auto. the manual is significantly faster.

Yep, I had a 98 BMW 3-series, and there is nothing quite like the feel of a beemer. Still, my new (new to me anyway) Solara is one sweet ride. Yeah, I need to redo the suspension to give it a tighter ride, and I could see a supercharger down the road for the "pin you to the seat" performance, but what else is neat is that you won't see 10 of them at every stoplight, like the beemers in Dallas! 8)
