*PICS ADDED* Tint Finished Product - 30% Fronts, 20% On Rest

Wrong

35 front and 20 rear will look different. Your suggestion that it will look the same is false. Jon.

I've got 35 in front and 15 in back, and it looks way different. The guy at the tint shop takled me into it, but I really want to get my front ones re-done. The 35 hardly lookes like a tint unless its dark outside.

Well, I just dropped it off, so there isn't much turning back now.

I did come to a healthy halfway point for myself, though--

They had a 30%, so I went 30% fronts, 20% around the rest..

He said anything below 35% in the front is obviously below the state legal limit, but they shouldn't be able to tell during the daytime with the 30%. All I care about is that the difference between the two doesn't jump out awkwardly.

I was in the same predicament as you. I wanted to stay all legal on my daily driver but 35% is SOOO light, does nothing! So I did 20% all around and it looks great, not to dark at all and doesn't draw any attention from the law.

*EDIT* Woops, saw you already got it done.

I live in St. Peters, MO, right outside STL. And I've got 20% on my sides and 5% on my back window in my ford ranger. I've never gotten a ticket for them. Most cops do not seem to notice.

Thanks for all of the comments from everyone.

Well, I got the car back and the blend turned-out really nice! Did 30% front, 20% around the rest.

The only problem was the guy said he had some trouble with the "Dot Matrix" on the back window, and it shows.. Just along the very top of the rear window where the raised black patterns of adhesive dots are, you can see very small patches where the tint didn't fully 'take'. It doesn't jump out at you, and you have to look close, but you can tell something isn't quite right..

When I post the pics of the final product later maybe I'll post some close-ups to show you what I mean.

He said what they can do is cut it off right there at the very top, and then they take a black strip of vinyl and run it across to cover the matrix completely. If I decide I want it done, they will do it for 30 bucks.

The dot matrix has been a Solara/tint issue since 1999. Nothing new. It never bothered me too much but I guess the vinyl strip inside would take care of it visually from the outside. Let's see some pics. Jon.

about your tint ??

Postby platypusfetch » Mon Jun 12, 2006 10:34 am

I had a Dodge Avenger before i got my solara. I had it done @ 20% all the way around minus windshield. Looked really sharp IMO. Now that i got the solara, i went 20% on the driver and passenger windows and 5% on all the others, again, minus the windshield. VERY DARK. I like it that way. I think also that the colour on interior, as well as the shade being open on the sunroof can make a big difference. The Avenger was black leather, with no sunroof, so that car looked REALLY dark inside, like i painted the windows. The solara has that dark charcoal leather, so it too looks good IMHO, but i can lighten it up a little by opening the sunroof shade, or the roof, depending on how close the cop seems to be lookin... best of luck, i am sure you will find something that you like... Cheers

I have 30% front sides and 20% back, but I'm armed with the BS answer of "it was like that when I got this car; the owner got it when it was legal" (answer to "how do you know?" "He told me and I looked it up to back up his story"), since legislation changed it to be illegal to have front side window tint now in CA.

Therefore, you might want to look into the past laws and give that excuse if it's applicable.

Okay.. took me long enough to post the "after" pics.

Here's the finished product. Not too dark, not too light - just right for me..
