Yes they are! Especially the almost bulletproof 22-RE.

In overall quality? Not really. Americans are only catching up. The made in Mexico Ram isn't really a great example.

But then again saying "american" trucks are kind of an ignorant statement to make since the Tacoma is all made here in Fremont,CA, the Tundra in Princeton Indiana and the Frontier in Tennessee. Both are made in North America by a Japanese nameplate. ;)

Look at how many Toyota trucks are being used in the third world!

I like 4Runner... real 4x4 built on truck platform.

The Land Cruiser is like a Ranger Rover....

in terms of going anywhere. Toyota has a nice niche in the truck market. The funny thing is Chevy, ford and Dodge actually mention Toyota as a competitor now in the truck market.

I thought Honda was coming out with a fullsize truck?

ya well, all i meant was that in terms of off road capabilities, towing, and storage capacity, the Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, Dodge Ram, oh and i cant forget the Hummer, really nothing else can compete at this point in time. Nissan is coming out with a full size truck that looks spectacular, along with a healthy powertrain. for heavy duty towing, i dont think i would choose a toyota tundra over any of the american offerings though. the domestic trucks powertrains are far superior when it comes to brute power like loads of tourque for towing heavy trailers and such. and GMC's Quadrasteer is just friggin' brilliant! now i am not saying the tundra is bad, when it comes to fit/finish levels, the tundra kills all the other brands, but when you are looking for a truck, are you looking for panel gap measurements and good feeling materials? not really. i look for towing, offroading and storage capacity.

oh and by the way, i know several people with over 250,000 miles on there ford f-150's, so i think domestic trucks are made to last.

I can see this thread will go endless because i know several people with Toyota trucks beyond that mileage...some even haven't done an overhaul yet. Domestic trucks maybe made to last...but Japanese trucks are made to last...and still be solid and dependable as they were brand new...thats why they're award winning. Something Ford trucks really cant claim other than being number 1 in sales.

ya that #1 in sales is kind of misleading because so much of it comes from government sales. It's not like police departments could replace their crown vics with passats.
