For all the 'tuners'

Postby Jai_Jai_Binks » Mon Jul 07, 2003 7:13 am

how I came to choosing a solara was ironical! Went in to the dealership to buy a new corolla or a matrix....found out that matrix was coming cheaper (in payments per month)...and the manager asked i was intrested in the solara.....found out they has a year old solara (2001) and it was 2002..sitting in the lot..and they offered me a sweeter deal then both corolla/matrix and i couldn't say no! As far as tuning....i belive any car is modi-fyable..its just what you live personally

we went to the hertz dealership looking for a corolla for my cousin. the red solara was on display in the front and i immediately fell in love. we were due to buy a new car anyways since my sister started driving, so i begged my parents for a whole month, and they finally agreed. this was when i was 15, i just had a learners permit, not even a license, but i was IN LOVE with teh car. i still take a peek into my garage whenever i pass by and have a look at it cuz its so gorgeous. yea, call me crazy. i remember when we first bought it, i would see maybe one every two weeks and be so excited, now theyre everwhere :-( but still not as much as an accord

I don't think you are alone...I do dat all the time..I'm a tuner...essentially...after I park...and walk away from my vehicle...before i reach the corner, i lean back to see if its still there and how gorgeous it looks (KNOCK ON WOOD). I guess we all are crazy!

Crazy about our Solara! I do the same... one time I was walking with a friend who had never seen my car before and said "WOW check out that nice ride, wish I had a car like that." then I unlocked the doors with the remote and after the beep he was like "Oh my god."

Just a little story about the attention my Solara gets here in my hometown, I've seen less than 5, which makes it unique to the area!!!

actually, at first, i went to the honda dealership in search of a rooooommmy 4 door accord. heck, even the 2 door coupe was lookin' sexy. i was shooting for the manual 4 door though. however, the asking price was more than the loan money i could borrow. the salesman directed me to a civic, at which i gave him the finger and stepped on his loafers and exited the lot.

so then, at my father's suggestion, i decided to get a toyota. (we've had 5 toyotas in the family) i wanted something sporty though, so i knew i wanted the MR2: too expensive and not enough room though.

CELICA: just out of my range..

then i saw Hertz's  ad for a solara, and i always had a thing for solaras...so i practically bought the damn car over the phone...blindly.

..shoulda got the silver one they were selling.. :-?

"its a granny car!" and i'm always like lets go, i'll show you want a "granny" car can do. and 75% of the time i win. we all have solaraitis, lol. i got this car back in december as a bday gift, and loving every moment of it.

I agree Chris... when I saw the Solara pace the CART field at Long Beach, I fell in love. There is a picture of the pace car on my Cardomain site (click WWW) page 3.

I have seen more Grandma's driving Honda Civics and Accords than I have Solara's.... Granama type cars are more like Oldsmobiles or Buicks.... It used to be Caddalac's were Grandma cars, but now look at their new image!
The Camry has proven itself as a very very reliable car that if taken care of can be a long lasting car. And since the Solara is a Camry, you can't go wrong.
There is nothing Grandma about a Black on Black Solara on 18 inch chromo rims.....

I have to admit driving a Mustang did make me drool a little bit, but I really don't spend all that much time at the race track, and definitely dont have time to fix my car every couple of weeks. Also, it's nice to wake up and not have to wonder if my car is going to start today. As far as civic's an accords, I offer $1,000,000 for the head of whoever was the first to decide "hey, lets make a bajillion aftermarket parts for these cars!" 8)

Ford is made with cheap materials, you're lucky if the engines doesn't fall off.

helllllz yea to that. and also, i have respect for accords, because the v6 can be pretty fast, and as long as its not rice, thats fine. for all those out there who mod their civics tho, all i can say is HA. i would rather drive a bonestock solara i4 than a riced out civic, period.

Solara is a nice car but to talk crap about camaros and mustangs your way out of your bragging rights. I bought a solara becasue i liked the leather dash and it is a pretty nice looking car. Looks wise its all personal in looks the solara cant compete wiht the mustang and the camaros nice but a trans am will just crap on a solara. Now unfortunatly FORD does have a bad rep of its cars hitting 100k miles and going to crap. Thats why for is in the crapper right now. Ford makes crappy parts. Parts. Ive had many cars and i can honestly say the Ford 5.0HO was one of the best and most durable motors ever built. plus very cheap to gain massive hp numbers. you can gain almost 100 hp by bolt on mods. As for gm im not a big camaro fan so im going to talk about the Trans Am. this is one bad ass car that is very reliable. ive seen TA's that werent abused last well over 130k miles with no problems. only problems with these cars is pretty much everyone beats the crap out of them. American cars are some of the best cars in the world. Out of all the sports cars in the world such as ferrari, mclaren, and all of them the number one sports car out of the history of many for overal hp per $ is the new Corvette. A modded corvete with just 20k in mods compared to a 1mill mclaren or 700thousand dolla enzo ferrari, the vette takes the cake. for 50k you can get a over 400 hp. put a twin turbo setup on that and you can honestly say by by european cars. And all the supra bs yea you can mod a supra but i also seen a cavalier run the 1/4 mile in 7 sec. stock supras came wiht 280 hp? Also a friend of mine has a 01 s500. its an awsome car fully loaded but its all what you expect from a benz and theres really nothing super great about it. while american enginuity wiht cadillac is bring the cards to the table with such options as night vision. the big thing wiht american companys is their main focus is sales such as any other business. if american co. wanted to spend more then enough money on building a car that would out perform any foreign car they would. sounds kinda familiar (66-70 Ford GT40 1,2,3 every time it raced in the LeMans killing Ferrari)
