suspension recomendations

lol that's the truth. Problem is I don't have a garage to work in where I'm currently living so I'm SOL. Sucks to pay somebody to do it. I haven't done much work on the solara personally other than spark plugs, wires, rotors, and brake pads but I've done a whole lot of messing around on my mustang.

I notice that the TRD springs aka Eibachs "appear" to drop lower in the back then they do in the front. The Tein springs give you an even look with their S-Tech springs. I dunno call me bias. I have them on "tabasco".

Whats the difference smart guy?

generally, struts go up the center of a spring. most trucks have shocks where the spring is located nearby but not around the shock.

coilovers

Postby ilovenakedwomen » Fri Apr 23, 2004 5:50 pm

i was lurking the forums after recently buying a 99 slev6 with only 35 k on it.

i just put 17s (ssr 2 piece with z rated nitto's) and want the to buy a lowering kit / suspension.

im not really a big car head, but am trying my best to start off and actually understand everything. i want to eventually be able to tune my car myself, and a friendly machanic is trying his best to explain everything to me.

i found it earlier in the forum, but now dont know where it was i looked - can i just get a coilover package to substitute for the whole strut / shock package. if so, what is everyone's recommendation:

im looking to spend not too much and also not that 'racey. bumpy' feel. i want to lower and have mopre control on the road, but not be bumping around everywhere when i drive...

thanks for whatever help anyone wants to offer me!

sorry dude... you cannot have all those things you just asked for unless you go airbags... but that would still cost a hellava lot of cash. The coilovers you are talking about are either JIC Magics or Tein. they both would give you a so called "racey/bumpy" feel as they actually communicate road conditions to your car. Either of those coilovers or airbags will bust your budget through the roof in terms of comparing it to springs/strut combo. Best bet is Tein S springs and Tokico shocks.

I think the bigger question is how your car is going to look, because certainly a stock solara can give you enough time to train your driving techniques before any modifications.

thats true. You gotta go crazy and take your Solara to the limit to learn what you really need. If you are bothered by the "racer" feeling, then seems that the overly soft ride hasnt bothered you yet. Personally, i hated feeling like I was on a boat and opted to go all out as riding in a friends Camry with H&R spring together with the KYB shocks were not enough. It felt just like a stock 2000 V6 Accord suspension! Do your homework before you make a decision as there are many people who sell the springs/shocks combo because it was not enough for what they were looking for.

http://www.canoverair.com/

Obviously none for the Solara; it's only a reference.

They cost $3000 for air suspension only. This does not include air tank, compressors, fittings, valves, gauges, etc. Generally combined it will be 2x the cost of a domestic setup, however you get a safer line pressure.

Kiyoshis import them. Why not ask them if there are suspension setups that will fit the solara from other Toyota cars such as Corolla. Contact information below:

What's wrong with the TRD springs? I thought they were exactly like the Eibachs.

...not too sure how hard you'll be wanting to bend your Solara into a curve, BUT - - - after the 215/55's, my improved handling was measureable. Still not great, but improved. And with little bread.
