ABS scary in snow and ice......

yes

i know what the oiginal post guy was saying with the abs in the solara it feels like you have no stoping power when you smash your foot on the brakes as hard as you can.

however disableing your abs is not wise because your abs pumps or "pluseates" your 100 time a minute and what feels like grinding or loss of controll is that pumping over and over.

i was concered as well with the feling because i have driven many abs cars and never felt this feeling. but i got my brakes checked and there fine. so i guess will have to live with it and ease our braking.

i do want crossdrilled - power sloted rotors and carbon fiber brake pads with bigger brake lines and this might make the solara owners happy!

You missed the group buy on the xdrilled or slotted rotors. As for big brake kits, i think there is only one made to fit out car and its around $1999. I believe ABS pulsates more than 100x a minute and not to mention there are adaptive ABS systems that know what kinda surface you are on. My moms 2002 Maxima displays a warning on the dash "icy" and ABS adapts around that

just out of curiosity, will the ABS still work if the engine stalls? Not that it had abs, but I've stalled my celica spinning out before, that's what made me think of it.

no, i dont think it would
if then engine stalls theres enough power stored for about two stops, but i doubt ABS would work

If the engine stalls you lose power brakes and power steering so i'm assuming you lose ABS

they just did a news report on abs ironically enough..i didn't watch the whole thing..but they said that a lot of people get in trouble b/c they'll pump the brakes in weather emergencies, but in new cars you shouldn't do that cause of the abs. soemthing like that and how it causes people to lose control cause they pump the brakes w/ the abs.
