Embarrrrraaaaassssssing Question....... HELP please!!!!

Postby Guest » Fri Mar 07, 2003 6:31 pm

I've already posted this question at a diff forum so if you've already seen it please disregard..... :-?

Alright, i feel dumb posting this message but oh well... I've seen worse hehe, anyway... earlier this week i ordered a quick shifter for my Solara, and today it finally arrived. I've only driven a Camry with a quick shifter once, but that was for like 15 mins, waaaaaay over a year ago, so other than that i had NO idea of what to expect in the package until it arrived.

My question here is, what is the difference between the stock shifter, and the quick shifter?? (I'm not taking about performance like, but measurements, is one bigger than the other? and if so, about how long? etc)

I ask this because as i popped the center console open to sort of take a look at what to expect, i noticed that side to side, my "stock" shifter and my "quick" shifter seem identical!!!!! (both just as tall, etc). When I purchased my car 4 months ago from the dealership i was not told it had a quick shifter so I am assuming it's stock, but I'd like to double check with someone, please!!!! :(

The pivot ball is set lower on the OEM one i.e. longer throws. I had pics of it somewhere. But basically. the pivot ball for the short shifter sits higher up.

dont u mean the opposite? the ball hangs lower, so u do less movement on top and it throws the ball further.

i dont really know how it works because ive never installed one, but what flips saying makes sense to me, because the longer the 'stick', the longer the throws would be as well, therefore if the ball is higher the stick will be shorter and the throws as well

i could be wrong, but thats how i see it in my head

this is how it was what i installed it:

the bottom extends out longer so when you shift up top, the lower it hangs, the after it travels. so therefore u do less work on top while the bottom moves further.....get it? i dont know what flip was talking about, but it just sounded weird to me, so i thought i'd try to clarify

Geeze, it's not a hard concept to decipher. The ball pivot im talking about is what helps rotate the shifter back and forth. It's the circular thing midway on the shifter assembly with an arm sticking out from it. If you know how to work/conceptualize the idea of a simple machine like a lever...then you will understand what i'm talking about. It's not all that hard.

No. Think about it...i'm not talking about the shifter knob. I'm talking about the pivot ball on the shifter shaft itself.
