Would 100 Octane hurt the 1MZ Engine?
There is a gas station in Corona that has 100 Octane at $7.00 dollars a gallon, and light bulb came into my head about it.

Don't think it would be a problem, has anyone tried it? 8)

It shouldn't hurt. I used to put 100 in my '91 Toy p/u and noticed some pick-up. I used to go to Trick gasoline in the Valley somewhere. I'd be buying it but it's just a bit expensive. I would really love to drop some in with the s/c! 8)

BTW, that's post 1000!!!!!!

how does a higher octane give more power? doesnt it just prevent the fuel from detonating early (like in a high compression engine, or in an FI engine)?

I use 111 Octane Sunoco unleaded fuel at the track. It helps keep the knock levels down especially those with the S/C.

when you use higher octane, gas mileage goes WAY down, however the benefits i can feel, is smoother operation and tad better pedal response.

jaime- there's a 76 over at Arroyo parkway that sells pump gas 100oct for 5.75/ gallon.

i've pumped in 100oct many times.

the funny and scary part is the dollar counter going so fast when you only pump a few gallons in.

100 Octane is definitely all g for your engine, especially for those who have modded theirs with aftermarket parts. My friend fills up his WRX with 100 Octane up to half tank and then the other half with 92. I have used it at the tracks and it does help out the performance somewhat on semi-stock vehicles. But for the best results, you should have a pretty well modded engine (ie SC, turbo, built block, etc.) to actually feel the difference. BUT, the 100 Octane should just be used for TRACK purposes only for our cars (due to the current set-up). It just wouldn't be worth it for the price . . . ours is $6.00/gallon @ 76 gas station.

That's sweet! I'd be at that place frequently! 8) But damn, I remember filling for around $5.00/gal back in '93.

Is that near the 134 exit at Arroyo Parkway? I've never been, I gotta go some time because I just got Jim's fuel kit. 8)
