HID question!

HID question!

Postby ChargedSolara » Thu Aug 05, 2004 8:32 am

Hi all:

I just recently installed the McCulloch 4300k HID kit on my 1999 Solara. A few questions i have,

1. I got the low beam only kit. Now the HID is on just like DRL, because the hi beam resistor is gone, so the light defaults to always being on, although my DRL is already turned off. I can't figure out how to make the HID's stay off.

2. The HID beam doesn't seem correct, it is kind of shifted to the right, and its also very wide on the sides, when idrive by a wall there is a glare on it from the side. I thought maybe i need to reaim my headlights, is this right?

Other then that, the color is great and i love them. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

i had the same thing going on. perhaps some other members will chime in what to do about that.

the beam can be shifted left or right, however do this next to the wall. there should be a dial adjustment if you look hard enough behind the headlamp housing.

you need to turn the beam WAY down. otherwise it will look like you are in high-beam mode to other drivers.

yes, DRL's are disconnected, but the HID's are always on as soon as the car gets moving... i took it somewhere and they said they can't fix it because the high beam is out so there is no resistance or something..by the way where exactly is the area that i can adjust the headlights? thanks

How did you disable the DRLS?

Try it this way

Woowwwhoooooo...

You need to isolate the ballast so that the metal base doesn't touch the metal part of your car.
First, use black electronic tape to cover the bottom base of the ballast. Then use some plastic cable tie like this, Image, to tie them down to the car's chasis.
Tie the driver side ballast behind the battery.
Tie the passenger side ballast next to the windshield botle.

I did it, and no more driving light on. I had the DRL disable as well.

Other problem, I don't think there is a solution. My left one is kinda higher my right one, I've tried to adjust it to no avaivable, but it's kinda ok now.

If needed, I'll take pic of how I isolated my ballasts and post them tonight for u.

Very easy job, I did for only 15 min while I was in the parking lot of Jones Beach, NY.

Enjoy.
