oil level was on the lower hole on dipstick, but i got the 4.7 quarts out when i changed the oil,,,,are the dipsticks unreliable, and how low on oil till the idiot light comes on, wish these came with the oil pressure gauge standard.

i think as long as the oil level is not below the lower hole, you should be fine. is the car on level ground when you look at the dipstick?
i normally buy 5 quarts, and fill up the oil filter first, then put the rest in the engine, after a little dripped out of the oil filter while putting it back on, the dipstick reading is in the middle.

What kinda filter are you using?

Also, do you know about how much oil drained out when you changed the oil. That sounds very odd. Even a leak would require the oil to heat up before you'd have a problem, unless its a giant hole.

Something doesn't sound right here
