grill questions

hi guys and gals! been peeking in from time to time, love this place. here's my question(s)... the chrome is starting to peel off of the lower portion of the grill, just a little, but it's a defect. my bf is going to get a new stock one for me, because i don't like the mesh look, so i'm going to stay with the stock pattern. he wants to play w/ the old grill a bit and we searched for some ideas here, but didn't really find anything that i liked. he's thinking about sanding the old one down and painting it with the same pearl white from toyota, leaving the center stripe and the emblem chrome. we searched for pics of grills customized like this, but couldn't find anything. has anyone done this? i'm thinking the white would look really cool with some clear corner lights, just havn't seen it done before. anyone point us in the right direction if it has?

well first off what year solara do you have?

99-01 (gen1) and the 02-03 (gen1.5) are in the works unless its total custom like ur bf is doing... for the 04's (Gen 2) theres already sum grilles available (but i think just lower grille)?

most ppl dont do the toyota paint cuz it costs an arm and leg and maybe no professional painting skillz plus using white, if you F up, it would be very noticable.... but hey good luck to your bf
