What kinda cable do you have. I have the scantools.net product and it came with software for free from their website.

Some software is going to be designed for specific hardware.

I'm actuallly borrowing a friends cable. He said it was an ODB-II ISO cable. It has a serial (DB-9) connection on one end and ODB-II on the other.

Ask your friend what software he is using / what OBD2 scanner it is. I guess it is possible it is just a cable but highly unlikely. There is at least an interface chip that should be in-line with the cable. It might be in a small box. I have 1 from Car Codes that has a little black box in the cable about 1.5"x2". Then the one that works with Scantool and Digimoto uses the ELM Scanner hardware that is a bigger box (about 3"x5"). The point Yanks was making is the software needs to match the hardware. -JoeB
