Both reverse lights stopped working

Both reverse lights stopped working

Anyone know what could cause this?

I checked the bulbs (bought new ones, still don't work) and I checked the fuse. I'm scared this might be really expensive to fix for something as lame as reverse lights. :(

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

I'm not a mechanic, but if it's not bad bulbs or a bad fuse then whatever sensor or switch tells the car that the tranny is in reverse is likely the culprit. Probably a computer module... and probably not cheap :(

mine does the same thing but mine went out little by little. i am still having this problem and still have no reverse lights. with my lights, they would not go on sometimes but if i would jiggle the wires a certain way they would come back on. i think that i might have a water leak from the trunk (like if it rains or wash the car). could it be that? cuz now they just dont come back on. help any1?

one thing you could try as far as diagnosis goes, it to have someone stand behind the car while you very slowly move the gearshift from Park to Drive.
I've seen it happen where the indicator sensor on the gearshift itself has shifted and the reverse lights still come on at some other point in the gearshift lever's travel, but, not when the gearshift is placed in reverse.

dig up the wire under all the carpet and see if there is an exposed area.

since its not at the bulb side, then you must trace to the other side.

you might want to reserve a weekend for this task.

the plug for the sensor is on the tranny.. it has 2 wires going to it.. check and make sure its still plugged into the tranny... check fuses... if nothing else pull the reverse sensor out of the tranny and test it

Thanks for the replies guys. I think most of your responses related to the auto though. I actually have a stick. Any other suggestions?
