Solution for leakin' radiator reservior

Postby SleeperSolara » Wed Oct 06, 2004 7:30 am

Ok i just found the solution for our leakin' reservior.
Just find a 1998 or 1999 i think Camry V6 reservior, and replace it wit the one in your Solara.
For the V6 and 4 bangers, find the Camry wit the same engine as yours.

leakin' reservior

Postby noodlerooney » Wed Oct 06, 2004 9:33 am

I just used a sandwich bag between the reservoir and cap and trimmed off the excess. No more leakage.

its supposted to be able to flow over if it needs to... its not supposed to be completly sealed.. which is why toyota didn't make it a complete seal.. it needs some air flow from outside for pressure purposes

Solution

Postby SleeperSolara » Wed Oct 06, 2004 3:25 pm

Well, it not good when the collant is leakin' over and gettin' all over the ABS wires, and part of the paint under neither it.
The reservior is suppose not to leak from the top, i thought.

There is a vent in the reservoir, it's shaped like a hook to prevent splashing out, look for it. This is where the reservoir vents, not from the cap.

Reserivor solution

Postby SleeperSolara » Thu Oct 07, 2004 7:26 am

I know where the vent is man, i think it might be clogged or something.
But to deal wit the leakin' solution is to get the 98 Camry V6 if you have a V6 radiator reserivor the vent is in the cap and it won't leak as much.

I think I'll try the sandwich bag method. I'm tired of refilling my resevoir every two weeks since the coolant keeps leaking out from the cap. I know its not the vent because I plugged in up on purpose a while back to see if that what it was...and no avail.

Thanks for the tip Noodlerooney.

My pleasure. Also, try to keep the level at the full mark, which is about 1" high, this should minimize splashing. I still can't figure out why it leaks out of the cap when I keep the level at the marks, which is rather low. I don't drive that erratic, well, maybe a little.
