PO 135 and how to fix it

Postby all_red » Thu Nov 11, 2004 12:12 pm

I was driving down the highway this morning and the check engine came on. I went to autozone and its PO135 which is the O2 sensor.

I want to know what could be wrong and how to fix it. I think there might be different things to it other than replacing the sensor.

Thanks,

Do you know what exactly is wrong with the O2 sensor?

replace your o2 sensor, i had that issue a month back, you can find the thread via search.

my code was P1135 but the explanation was also heater circuit open/short..not 100% sure if this is the same as p0135..

If you have a Haynes repair manual, there is a procedure in there to check the sensor itself and the heater circuit for it. The heater circuit is very easy to check and also easy for the car's diagnostics. If it says there is a malfunction, unless there is a problem with the wiring, it is probably correct and the only fix is to replace the sensor. From what I read, it isn't NEAR as bad as the knock sensors. -JoeB

P0135 & Traction control - HELP

Postby aptleo » Fri Feb 24, 2006 10:09 am

Hi,

I have a PO135 code problem, and naturally, replaced the O2 sensor. I bought the part online at theautopartsstore.com. The part I ordered was a Bosch 13355. But am not sure if they substituted it, cause the problem has not gone away.
After replacing the sensor, I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery terminal for a couple of minutes, and the check engine light disappeared for a few hours. But now its back on.

I checked with Haynes manual, mechanics at Midas & AutoZone to confirm that I replaced the correct sensor. And now the code is the same. Is there a way I can check if the new sensor if faulty?

Also, my Traction Control has gone off. This problem started soon after the sensor problem appeared, and after replacing it vanished for a few days.
The car suddenly freezes for a couple of seconds on sudden acceleration, and then the Trac Off light comes on. Before the replacment of the sensor, a mechanic who I checked with, told me both problems are related, though am not sure how.
After the replacement, the Trac Off light stayed off for a few days, even with 5K+ rpm revs of acceleration. ( I drive a lot, and made sure the light stayed off for more than 48 hrs after replacement before I resumed pushing the engine)

A little about the car: It's a 1999 SLE that I bought a few weeks back, and that engine check light's been ON since the second day I had it. The car has 135K miles on it, but is silk smooth. Couple of days back when I had a real good look under the hood, realized that a new engine (or completely re-worked one) has been put in, explaining the smooth ride. I thought it just was washed clean, when I bought it.
I don't have much experience tinkering with engines, though I know my way around them. So far I just had older cars, with not so much electronics.

Any help is welcome. Thanks in advance

Cheers,

Andy!!
