I think I read that mildew gathers on a filter or something...and theres some filter you can change to get the air clean again.

It hasnt happened to me over 5 years, but I hear alot of people talking about it.

I had it twice, usually after a really rainy period, like a week or so of straight rain and high humidity and cool temperatures. It would go away on its own after a few days.

there are no air filters (we're not avalons, i know those have it, but our gen 1 n gen 1.5 didn't have em). One easy way to do avoid this is by force of this habit:
if your like 3-4 minutes away from your destination, turn your a/c switch to off position (ie. no lights on a/c..aka using only the fan w/o the condessor) and then opening the vents (to recirculate) and keeping the fan postion to low (and not off). Doing such just dries up any condensation from the vents, thereby avoiding the main ingredient that goes to form mold...vapor (water...condensation!!!). Its not like one time try and i'll be over..doing this over a period of time, will ensure that your car doesn't stick like pee!

I have tried a couple of different sprays. Two diff. from Autozone and Lysol (recommended by local Toy. dealer). Lysol works best for me, but still does not get rid of odor completely. Any suggestions for a spray that you put into the vents?

When i first has this smell from mine, i read on other forums to turn on your car. Leave the window open and have the heater on full blast, Of course don't sit on your car. Run for about 30 mins and it should kill all the bacteria and spray some lysol. That should get rid of the smell and all excess mold.

After this i never had any problem with the smell. Also what Jai said, Before arriving at your destination turn your AC off and leave the fan on and recirculate the air. DO NOT have the recirculate closed. This will cause condensation and the mold/smell will develope again.

Oh yeah..^^ what he said...also, (regardless if summer or winter) when i'm city driving with teh windows open, i just crack up the thermo to HOT and leave it to recirculate (ie. vents open) and let the engine heat..do its wonders...I really don't know if i do it get better milage DOH, get the heat out of my engine DOH or just to kill any mold in the vents..i've been doing it..and i guess its become a habit... :drinking:

Thats why you need to turn the A/C off before you shut the car off. Leaving the A/C on will build that smell up over time...
