Very Weird Problem With My 2000 Solara SLE V6! HELP!

Postby Sn88pyBQ » Fri Jan 28, 2005 1:24 pm

Hey Guys! I got a very weird problem with my Solara. Seems like my solara is going over bumps when the road is smooth. Its like the road always have bumps when its not. I have no idea what's wrong, I checked the tires and nothing is on the tires so it can't be the tires. What else can it be? Starting to get sick of doing like this.

If someone has or had this problem please let me know what you did to fix it. Seems like its coming from the rear of the car.

do you have after market rims??? you probably need a wheel balance... had same problem, after wheel balance was taken care of, it wasn't bumpy no more...

Sorry forgot to tell you guys how many miles! I have 48000 miles on it and its ALL STOCK! No rims or anything like that. You sure its the wheel balance? I changed the front 2 tires thinking it'll fix the problem but its still there.

How many miles does the Strut last? How much will it cost to replace it? What are the signs that the struts are blown? It just feels like there are bumps all over the road. Its not smooth no more and it gives me a headacne driving my car! AAAAAAAHHHHH!

I would think might have a few (or a combo) of the following:
1. wheels not balanced properly
2. one wheel bent
3. improper tire pressure on the wheels
4. work out front strut mounts
5. struts

(i doubt its struts, as i have close to 145K on my stock ones on my ES and they are still good...so i doubt its the struts). Rather than figure this out the hard way, take it to a shop that sold you wheels and tell them its not smooth anymore...See if they suggest anything else...(cus maybe they can describe the problem better).

This might sound crazy, but check to make sure that all 4 wheels are mounted correctly. Meaning that the first lug nut might have been tightened before it centered, and the others were forced to tighten down crooked. Also, make sure they aren't torqued too tight, which can cause the wheel to warp. Make sure you have the right lug nuts for the wheels. Short of that you'll need someone to put the car on a lift and check out all the suspension components.

Could a 4 wheel alignment cause something like this to happen? I had one done and 1 day after it happened. Is that possible?

I've got the same problem with my 2001 SLE. It only has 30000 miles on it. I'm going to have a high speed wheel balance done on it.

I had the same problem on my 2000 SLE the other day.

I drove over about 5 inches of ice and snow to get out of my driveway and got some ice inside my rim. When I drove off the ice stuck to the inside of the rim and caused an imbalance and I felt like i was riding over bumps - most of the snow was inside the rear wheels. Anytime I drove over 50mph it felt the same way. I pulled over and chipped the snow from my wheels and it drove fine again.

I hope it's just the balancing that's your problem

OK Sn88pyBQ I'll let you know. Another guy had the same problem several months ago and balancing the wheels fixed it.

Hey it did happen the day it snow, I dug my car and drove out and my rims were covered with snow. I thought that was the problem too but its sunny now and its still like that. Since then I've changed 2 tires and moved one of my front tires to the back. There is one tire I didn't touch for a long time, maybe that tire is the problem I don't know thou. Could a tire become unbalanced over time or thats not possible? If yes then I'll get that tire balanced and see what happens.

Thanks

My guess is axle problem? Since it was cold and you pushed it and coldness might have broken something or bented it. Like water freeze and yada yada you get the point. Just my thought.

Maybe one of the wheel weights fell off and through it out of balance.
