How dark are your windows.. ??

Postby NotASolaraYET » Sun Feb 06, 2005 10:44 am

I am going to move to Harrisburg in May..
I currently live in KY and i have 20% on my windows..

20% is illegal in PA.. And for the front windows in KY 20% is illegal also, but i have never been pulled over for it..
PA owners?-- how dark are your windows? Have you ever gotten a ticket for them?

-- In my moms subdivision in Harrisburg, i notice alot of kids cars with tint, maybe its not strictly enforced..

Is it possible for tint to fade? I had mine done like 2 years ago, and i swear it doesnt look near as dark as it did before..

Please post a reply and get back to me! -- I am just curious..
Have fun with your solaras!

In case anyone cares!!-- This is a link to my car now.. For a stock malibu, i think it looks decent.. Thanks..

it just depends on the officer.

If he feels you may be a threat, then the obvious will be determined.

I thought it is illegal everywhere in the US to have front window tint.

There is a law in tx, same as everywhere else, but they arent strict about it. I have had 3% for over a year and ive never had any officer say anthing to me.

I have 20% everywhere but the windshield. I'm careful when approaching cops, and sometimes even roll down my window, depending on how paranoid I'm feeling at the time. Had it for 2 years now. It's funny, 'cause the Virginia inspection doesn't care, but it is definitely illegal. $200 ticket if caught, plus the cost of removal and replacement.

Yea I've got 18% tint on my ride . . . but it's SUUUUUUUPER sketchy driving in Hawaii with it, as the legal limit is 35% (like most states). The really shetty thing about the tint tickets here is that they are $95 a "window", so those little rear windows for the passengers counts! So a ticket runs us around $500 if you get caught. My advice is to not get it too dark if you're scared of gettin caught . . . maybe something like 25% tint or somethin. Shootz.

You might need to ask around for recommendations on where to get your inspection to get your tags too. When I moved to Maryland I didn't think about that because I had 35% tint. The guy wouldn't pass it and told me I had to go to the State Police (Department of Motor Vehicles) and get it inspected for tint. They brought out a checker and told me it was 28% and failed me. There was about 93% factory tint that I didn't consider. So I went to a legal tint. -JoeB

I did not mean the front winshield.

I was talking about the driver and passenger windows.

Here in NC, the legal limit is 35% on the drivers and passanger side front windows. Any window behind the driver is pretty much open to whatever you want. When I had my windows tinted, the shop used a tint of 39%. That combined witht he tint that is present in the glass from the factory, put me right on the 35% mark. I have never had a problem with police officers stopping me for tint( I used to have 20%) however, it will fail the state inspection when you have the car inspected.
Anyway, just my .02

My cousin is currently going to college in PA at the moment. He was telling me that the law in PA is that tint is not allowed.

He, however has 20 % tint all around and 50 % tint on the entire front windshield. Fortunately, he is insured and registered in NY.

My cousin was also pulled over by an officer over there but let go for the window tint, only got hit with a speeding ticket and told he should remove the tint.

In my opinion, I'd just stick to excuse if you get pulled over "You Bought The Car Like That" and just play stupid.

To the best of my knowledge, PA can have tint everywhere but the windshield, and in any percentage.
