1999 Solara SE - Will 2004 17" rims fit?

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum and was hoping that some of you more knowledgeable members could steer me in the right direction.

I own a 1999 Solara SE and have come across an opportunity to purchase a set of Toyota OEM 17" rims off of a 2004 Solara, but here are my questions...

1.) will the 2004 17" rims fit on my 1999 Solara SE?

2.) if they will fit, does anyone know if I will have to purchase new lug nuts?

3.) if they will fit, can anyone recommend a moderate tire size that will not present clearance issues?

Thanks in advance for your help...I am relying on you guys since the dealerships seem to know less than the enthusiasts.

They'll fit. Thats all I do know. But it isnt worth it depending on how much your spending for it.

Thanks for the replies guys, but Chris, can you tell me why it's such a headache to fit the 2004 17" rims on the 1999SE? Wouldn't it just be a matter of new lug nuts?

You will either need spacers in the rear if you get them with the stock 215/55/17 tires as i have, or you will need to get low profile tires probly like 215/45/17.
Chris had them then took them off. I still have them on my car with 215/55/17

Let me ask you a question, if I just "slapped" the 17" rims on my Solara wihtout spacers, etc...is the problem a clearance issue? And what you are saying is that if I go with 245/45/17 I will be okay?

You'll rub the rim, not the tire.

I have 04 rims on my 2000 SE. 1/4 spacers in the rear, the tire rubbed the strut with out them. Don't really see what the trouble is.



I think they look really good, and still look like they belong on the car. Lowering the car a little would make it look better, but being in MA and having winter and potholes lowering isn't the best plan. Run the 15's with snow tires in the winter.

Did you purchase extended studs? If you didn't, did you notice how much, rather, how little thread is holding your wheel on?

I checked, there was a comfortable amount of threading left.

Also, did you put on a hubcentric spacer?

No, but you bring up a good point. When I swap the rims back on this year I'll look into that further.

I had just a spacer myself before, but after talking to several wheel shops, they told me it would be within my best interest to buy extended studs and a hubcentric spacer if I was going to stick with the 17s, for my safety. Just wanted to give you a heads up.
