To change oil or not?

Hey guys, I did a search on this but wasn't able to find a definite answer. Here's the thing: I recently got a job and have to travel 150 miles a day. I've been using regular oil Castro GTX 5w30. I change oil every 3k miles. But now, because of my new job, I would have to change the oil every month, which is a hassle. So...I'm considering changing the oil to Synthetic Oil, probably to Mobil1. The thing is I have 95,000 miles on my car and I always use Castrol GTX. So would it be wise to change the oil to Mobil1? Also, how long does Mobil1 usually last? Thanks for the input in advance.

Just remember, oil is cheaper than metal

Even if you went with mobil 1, i'd still change it every 3000 miles. While mobil 1 doesn't break down that easily, it still gets just as dirty

But like hsakuragi said, stick with castro

You can not beat Mobil 1. IMO

I've used it in all my cars since I first heard about it years ago and I've never had a leak. As a matter of fact my engine builder (Carlos Jr of Arrieta MotorSports) highly recommended Mobil 1. It's expensive but, you get what you pay for.

I thought that Mobil made "everyone's" synthetic. I can't remember who told me that. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I just did and oil change with Mobil1 motoroil 10-30w from the advise from other users and my car feels awesome. But make sure they put in the right amount of oil they only put in 4.0L of oil when the manual clearly says 4.7L with filter for 1MZFE. Before I was using whatever generic 10-30w crap now I'm switching to mobil1 for good. In other news I got a good deal on new Brembo Slotted brakes plus pads for $220 shipped with no tax. EBC brakes I used before are garbage they didn't last me 2 months.

I travel about the same amount of miles you do for work..maybe a little more. I agree, it is a hastle to change my oil 1-2 times a month...but its well worth it. My car still runs good ...even though I just hit 140k btw...i use mobile 1 synthetic..and change it every 3k

Mobile one does not break down but it does get dirty.. Keep a clean filter in it and it should last a long time... Contamination is the big killer of these oils..

We use Mobil gear SCH 320 and 460 in our machinery at work. With filtering and Power Up we have been able to make our oils last several years. Our bearing tolerances are a lot tighter then any car and each Cam costs over $10,000 and $100 per follower. Cars do get contaminated and thinned out due to gasses leaking past rings and valves but even then keeping the oil clean is the best way to make it last a long time.

Changing at every three seems excessive.. Rule of thumb though for dino oils though as they contain Sulfur.. Additives to oil keep the sulfur from attacking the metal in your motor yet they tend to become less effective over time. About 3000 miles. Mobil one does not contain sulfur and all the molecules in it at pretty much the same size.. Dino oil contains sulfur and the molecules are all different sizes. after about a 1000 miles most of the small molecules are gone leaving the larger ones to do the lubricating. Notice when draining your oil it is much thicker when pouring it in.

^^^^ I agree, stick with what works and don't take the risk of changing over......should get a nice beater for a few hundred and run that things up in mileage.............

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic like the rest also.

5W and 10W dino oil is only neccessary for improved fuel economy in warm climates. Yes, if the car is new or doesn't have too many miles, use Mobil1 for the life of it, otherwise a straight 30 is good for higher mileage cars.
