two idlers 1 tensioner cam seal ???????

Ok when I called the dealer today to ask what i need to change the timming belt he told me
Timming Belt
Cam Seal
Crank Seal
Water Pump
2 Idlers
1 Tensioner

Timming Belt-No crap, Water Pump-Ok
Is it necessary to change the freakin upper and lower idlers and tenioner or will it run fine without it?

Naturally the dealer replaces every part they can, in order to maximize profit but also to maximize rliability and prevent any future likely problem between T/B changes. I have rarely seen a water pump leak prior to the second T/B replacement and most people don't keep their cars that long anyway, same with the seals and tensioners. But anything is possible. So they are trying to hit every base. Except for the cost, that's not a bad thing. Generally, when people come into my shop for the car's first T/B change, if they are on a tight budget, I recommend changing only the belt, unless I see seepage from the seals or W/P or the tensioners feel loose or are getting noisy. On the second change, I usually recommend replacement of those items since they are so much more likely to fail prior to the third. I can raise the price a couple hundred dollars or more.

These parts are recommended because labor is overlapping.

Paying 8 hours for the T-belt only is stupid... preventative maintenance on those other parts is part...

You end up paying 8 hours + t-belt and later end up paying another 8 hours and the other parts when they go bad... OR

you can end up paying 8 hours plus the extra parts and only pay 8 hours (maybe another hour more, depending on how legit they like to be)

it doesnt take 8 hrs to change the timing belt....more like 3-4 hours thats including the waterpump...

the ONLY person snapping here is you. I was just going by how long it took me, thats all. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion if i remember correctly?

i probably won't do the cam seal and crank shaft seal until it leaks, but the parts are not expensive, but need special tools to remove those seals,
in my experience, dealer charge around $300 to $350 for the job, local shop charge around $250 to $300, DIY will be probably around 3 to 6 hours depend on the tools availability

You obviously have no clue how mechanics or shops set their rates and get paid. Please open your own shop and set your own flat rates.
