Front Wheel Bearing...

So I've been hearing this noise for a while and I wasn't sure but I thought it was the wheel bearing. I finally got around to bringing it to the dealer and sure enough thats what it was.

Anybody had these go?

They're charging me $448 parts and labor to do it. I said go ahead because I don't feel like doing it myself.

ouch... i've seen these go here and there, but it's not too common.

I think it was going when we bought it but you could only hear it when passing a tractor trailer on the highway going 65. You were going fast enough for it to be heard and when you passing the trailer the sound would be more audible when it bounced off the trailer..... weird huh... but thats how I first noticed it.....

Yea... that's how you'd hear it... if you're driving the sound disappates (how the hell do you spell that?!) but if you have a wall you hear the sound bounce off... I have A LOT of tire noise (damn cheap tires haha) that is audible when I'm driving... but if I'm near a wall or even a high curb... then OH GOD it's FRICKING LOUD!

Before I brought the car in I had the tires replaced. I had cheap POS coopers on when I bought it. Now I have yokohamas.

Just got a call from the dealer, they seem to think the one in the rear is making noise too and may be going bad.

HOW the heck to 2 wheel bearing go on the same side?

NOTE: It is my belief that they were going before we bought the car!

^When mine went, you only hear it when you turn the wheel slowly

I replaced my front one for $100... part was straight from dealer too

Ya know what, I didn't feel like doing it myself. I may do the rear though....

I don't mind supporting the owner of the dealership, he's a good guy.

actually, i've experienced the same problem... i thought it was because i installed my breaks wrong but its on the front left side and starting on the rear left side too...

seems like a lot of people are experiencing this problem.. could it be a defect ?

i had the same prob. as well, when i first bought the car. took it back to the dealer (bought it from carmax) and they fixed the whole thing for like 25 dollars (extended warranty!!!!) but when i looked around for just the part they were asking for like 300 just for the part. but i guess i got lucky...

Wow, so it's a common problem? YIKES!

I went to the dealer this morning and complained because it wasn't fixed. I never saw the part in the front so I don't know if it was bad. HOwever they never said anything about the rear being bad till after they fixed the front.....

I'm waiting for the service manager to call me now.

Hey is it common to replace the Bearing + hub assembly + axle when the wheel bearing goes?

Ok after all the bitching I now need to give props to my local dealership.

Because they didn't tell me about the rear wheel bearing to start off with they are now replacing the rear wheel bearing FREE OF CHARGE.

Could also be the tires. I thought I had the same problem with a constant grumbling/grinding type noise coming from the left rear. It was time to replace the tires, so I went ahead and got some Yokohama Avid H4s. The sound was gone right then and there. I turns out that the wear indicators were the ones causing the grumbling/grinding type noise.
