Rattling noise

Rattling noise

Postby Sp33d » Thu Mar 24, 2005 1:06 pm

it happened about two months ago but now its gotten a little weird.

it was raining and i guess i drove over a dead carcass. anyways, i hear a loud rattling noise and i could actually feel the vibration coming from the front left driver's side. so later on that day, im driving up a hill and there's a loud rattling, vibrating sound that seemed to progress near the middle of the car. it seemed like it was actualyl coming from the bottom of the centerpiece of our car. (the hand rest where we can put cd's and whatnot) anyways, as most of you know, it has been raining continuously here in CAlifornia these past couple of days. i suppose i ran over a puddle of water when the sound comes back again.

the sound comes back for about a good 5-10 seconds and while im pressing on the gas, the sounds becomes even more apparent. so i get scared thinking that if i just shift into neutral and rev my engine, it might go away.

so i rev it up to about 5000 RPMS, shift it back to D, and then all is well again.

im just wondering, do you think it could be something stuck somewhere in my car? i dont know..its weird.

Ive gotten that too. Its happened 2 or 3 times for 5-10 seconds and I cant identify it.

One time it happened when I was idle. Another it happened only when I opened the throttle. It kind of feels like its coming from underneath the driver seat. I forget waht the weather conditions were, but I think it was wet out. it goes away in a few seconds each time.

And dont rev to 5k and shift to D. Its not good for the tranny.

Whats your drivetrain? I have an I4 auto.
