Emission Test Problems - OBD Unit

Postby yrunvus » Fri Mar 25, 2005 9:51 am

I just got my 1999 Toyota Solara and i had to go get an emission test on it to get it plated.

I took it for the test and it failed...the paper work said "cannot communicate with my OBD unit" I took it to a mechanic and he checked it out and he could communicate with my OBD unit. So he took it to the emission site himself and they had the same problem. Later, they finally called me said i'm missing pins 2 & 10 so i should call toyota and see what advice they have so as to test. In other words i'm on my own.

so, u guys ...any advice

who'd you buy the car from?

I would think the previous owner should of done an emissions check for you.

DEQ Interface

I would start at the interface, the recepticle that is, and see if the wires that are supposed to go to the missing pins are there. You could probably get a replacement one from a wreak and wire it in. Worse case you would need to replace the harness. Sometimes the pins themselves push out the back.
