i had an accident near my passenger side door. they took that protective thing out on the passenger side but not the driver side... its to protect that part from rusting. my passenger side door jam has rust on that area now.

I was told from my boy at Toyota that it was on there for protection from when it comes out the factory.

I took mine off awhile ago and I haven't had a problem with rust or anything.......took them off with a heat gun because it left some sticky film on the paint. I think it looks better without it on there and the paint under it.

I think its protection from when passengers
enter the backseat. Or it's a a place to kick your
feet to loosen any snow or dirt from you shoes
before getting in the car.

Just a guess though.

From my guy at Toyota. The mystery is solved.

Greg,

They are officially called quarter panel protectors. They really can't do too much, but are for feet dragging in and road debris. Toyota uses these little clear tapes in various places on different Toyotas. As an example my 4Runner has them on the bottom rear corner of the rear doors and our Tundra has some on the rear flares. Just some protection that they think is needed there. Picture for EPC attached

Toyota data sent by BG.

Enjoy.
