Wiring through headlight system

Wiring through headlight system

Postby xyntax » Wed Nov 20, 2002 1:03 am

Does anyone here know where and how to wire something so that when you switch on your headlights, the accessories wired to it would turn on too?
If that's going too much trouble, maybe I should just stick with the old cig lighter plug way.
I have this thing about lights in my Solara's interior :bday: . Anyways, it's still just a plan. Haven't done anything yet.

Thanks for the inputs!

ps. I have an 02 Solara

You could just tap off the headlight relay to another relay. The headlight relay will trip that one to power whatever you want. Use a 30 amp relay wiring the field coils to the 12V going to headlights and the other end to ground. The contacts will be wired to the battery and the other end to the 12V side of whatever you want to power.

since solaras have daytime running lights, wouldn't it make more sense
to run it off the fog lights since you can turn them off and they won't dim.

Good point! But I have decided to just use the cigarette plug connected to a switch for convenience (and safety). I think I'm too chicken to tamper with internal wirings in my 02 right now. :( I'll learn...

What are you trying to connect and if you can plug it into your cigarette ligther, why not just cut off the end and hardwire it into your fuse box. Its extremely easy. I'll take pics if u'd like

One easy thing you could do is tap into the illumination lead from your stereo to trigger a relay.

Oh just lights inside. I'm still experimenting, haven't really acquired most of it yet. I just dont want to go through the cigarette plug coz i hate how the wires would show outside. My goal is to conceal the wirings, making the lightings look seamless in its installation.
