Stock talk about the Generation 1 and 1.5 Toyota Solara which were produced from 1999 to 2003.

What is that round thing on the LEFT side of my Dashboard?

What is that round thing on the LEFT side of my Dashboard?

Postby samkatz » Mon Nov 25, 2002 2:57 pm

Have a 2003 SLE.
My old 2000 had a daylight sensor on the right side of of the dashboard to turn the lights on and off automatically. They discontinued the auto on feature hence, no sensor. But there's a similar sensor on the left side corner, top of dashboard. Any idea of what it does?

thanks

I'd be interested in finding this out too. I always thought it was there as a decoration -- you know, being naive and stuff I though Toyota wanted some symmetry, to balance out the daylight sensor bump. Anyhoo, be interested in finding out about that "other" bump ...

it's on your window. It has been intergrated into your windshield. why they do it like that i don't know, but it sure makes washing a whole lot easier. It's in the owners manual. They say something about tinting and metalic tinting and how it my adversely affect attenna's reception. But i have tint's and it doesn't seem to be affectig it any, well unless they mean all that static and thefact i can never get any stations. Just kidding. :P
It works fine with regular tints. I'm sure someone with metalic tints can tell us how their fm stations sound.

Integrated into your rear window. Hence the extra lines other than the defroster grid. I have titanium tint on my rear windows and my reception is fine. I still get some San Diego stations from where I live (XHTZ 90.3). This San Diego station and like other stations that have antennas in Mexico have higher frequency than the broadcast antennas put here in the states thanks to FCC regulations.

The left sensor could be the internal temperature probe for the SLE climate control, so it can determine how warm/cool to adjust the temperature inside the car.

a friend of mine has dashlights in his Audi that dim or get brighter depending on ambient lighting. Maybe your Solaras' dashlights do that?

According to the Factory Wiring Diagram it's the "A/C Solar Sensor". The "Room Temp Sensor" is behind the A/C Control Assembly.
