Oil Additives

Oil Additives

What do you guys think about oil additives such as prolong, restore, or slick 50. I hate doing it, but lately, i've been beating on my solara. Can't resist when someone likes to rev up at me and start racing. Lately, it's been tapping. I know it has to do with my valves having be adjusted, but someone told me that this engine has hydraulic valves and they adjust by themselves. I was told prolong or slick 50 will reduce the taping. Wat do you guys think?

Those oil additives don't do any good for cars, you can do a search as some independent company did a study on them, and found out they are just false claims. If you do drive the car harder, just do the maintenance at a shorter interval. Don't just take words from anyone, do some research yourself. I've never added any of that additives to my cars, and I don't plan on starting, IMO.

There was a study that showed that some additives actually do damage. But yeah, do your own research, I did, and that's why I know about it. When you drive your car hard you should just change the oil more often.

I have to look for the webpage, but i saw that the BBB has actually filed claims against products like slick 50 and the spiral max intake because of the false claims they make

Don't waste your time on oil additives. You will just ask for problems in the long run. One of them is sludge. ;)

I just had a long talk with my toyota dealership about sludge and it really has become a problem, but only if you do not maintain your vehicle. There have been many debates about how often to change the oil, advoid so many problems and do it every 3000 miles. Thats been a leading cause of sludge. You will not need any addatives if you maintain your vehicle
