Cabin/Pollen filter - Anyone ever change theirs?

I just picked up a 2002 SE V6 Solara with 9K miles. Previous owner was a smoker. The dealership where I bought the car cleaned the upholestry
to get rid of tobacco smell, but I still get a whiff of the stale smoke once in a while. I thought maybe the cabin/pollen filter might still be harboring some odor......it's located behind the glovebox, right??

I wouldn't worry too much about the smoke smell. The previous owner of my car was a smoker also, and although the dealer cleaned the car up pretty well, I could still smell that faint smoke smell. But after a month or so, by leaving the windows open overnight in the garage, the smell went away. I can't smell it at all now.

that's what i'm thinking.

i don't think the previous owner of my car smoked, but they definitely let people smoke every now and then cause i found ashes in the lights and i don't have an ash tray..they took it when they traded in the car. wish i realized that at the time..i would made the dealer give me another out of the other solara on the lot.

Febreeze, several carpet shampoos, and upholstry cleaning will get rid of it. Don't forget to use Febreeze on the headliner, as that is where most of it is trapped. It just takes time.

Also helps to get a Can of Scent. Personally, I like vanilla.

I don't think I would become immune to the smoke smell altogether. After beng in the car for a long time, maybe. But if I come from in my house or wherever, I used to be able to smell it, but now I never do. Like I said, if you just leave the windows cracked at night (only if you have a garage I guess) and drive around with the windows down a lot, it will go away. I always drive around with my windows down anyway, because I think it would be selfish to keep my really loud system to myself. :D

Turn your vents open to FRESH, turn the fan on HI and spray lysol through the cowl vents to flush out the system.

Right under your wipers...where the windshield ends at the bottom.

This is actually true. I saw this advice on another thread when I wanted to get rid of the smell my AC was giving hen turned off. It went away. Just make sure you slightly open the windows coz you might not be able to breathe in there. Even after doing this, just leave an opening on the windows.
