How do you Use a Jack on a TrD solara???

I just realized when i went to change my oil that the trd side skirts make it where you cant get the jack stand under that car to lift it up properly without part of the jackstand touching the side skirt. Oil changes are no biggy but what if i get a flat on the side of the road. I cant even get towed with my Aftermarket cheap fiberglass bumper. Granted i dont drive my solara alot but i still may get a flat some day... then what??? :(

I was just wondering the same thing. I have the TRD body kit and a street glow underlight kit. I was able to place the jack stands, but it was extremely difficult to find a good spot. I put them where the scissors jack would go. Any ideas on where to jack the front end of the car using a floor jack.

umm..worse come to worse, you could call a wheel lift tow truck and they could just lift you up and change the tire....the best bet would be to use the new style wheellift (it's easier, but i heard there's a greater chance of damage since the car can slide off if it's put into neutral ..and u really should have it in neutral when towing to avoid tranny probs, but it's very unlikely)..the new style the tow truck just backs up to the car and the driver lets down the cradle like part that the tires go onto. from there, insted of the old style that the driver needs to get out and secure the bolts and everything, the tow truck automatically secures it. it's hard to explain, but it's really awesome to watch and takes about 25secs to hookup your car instead of 5mins.

this way, if you have a flat on the back, they'll lift the front, flat on the front, they can lift the back. of course if you had to tow it they'l have to lift the front cause it's FWD.

hey, octane...i'm sure they could just flatbed the car if you needed to be towed. the sucky part about aftermarket upgrades is that sometimes tow trucks can't avoid damaging the car, but as long as they don't mess up, it's usually minor, (like if you're car is really really low, they may scrape a little putting it up on the flatbed..if they tried to wheellift it tho, you're bumper probably wouldn't make it to the the tow to location w/ the rest of the car :P !)

Postby Octane SOlara » Sun Dec 15, 2002 4:55 pm

I guess i might just put my stock bumper back on and exchange the octane for shows. thats why im trying to get my hands on some trd front peices to the body kit.
Does anyone use a jackstand to lift their car for maintenance purposes that has a solution to the sideskirt problem...
help, paying to get my oil changed by reputable people is getting expensive

Why are you guys choosing where to put the jack? Isn't there suppose to be a specific place where you could do that? I found it when I had a flat tire on my rear left wheel. It's right in front of it.

Recently found a solution

Postby JMSinMaryland » Sun Dec 15, 2002 9:11 pm

I have been focusing on this problem for the last couple of weeks. A couple of solutions. A) Get a racing jack specifically made for race cars (i.e. works with less than 3 inches of clearance) but they are anywhere from $200-600 B)carry cans of flat tire repair C)modified your stock jack like I did (it works but I would only use it for emergency, not oil changes etc), what I basically did was stick a cube of wood in the little notch in the top of the jack. I then cut a block of wood which sits on the top of the jack and with brackets and screws connected it for stabilization purposes. Then I put a piece of metal on top to protect the wood some. Again this is only for waste case scenarios when all other options are not available. Jon.

maybe

Postby Octane SOlara » Sun Dec 15, 2002 9:33 pm

that sounds like a possibility
I just figured with all the trd solaras out there, (especially since toyota will sell them that way) that i would have tons of responses telling me how stupid i was for not seeing th obvious. unfortunetly it is as complicated as it seems

There is a jacking point in the front of the car that is a crossmember with a rounded area with a hole in the middle. I use one of those small 2 ton jacks that are only about 3 inches off the ground. No problems. BTW, that is a recommended lift point on the vehicle. Theres is also one in the rear with the same rounded area just in front of the suspension.

Before i go ahead and order the tokico and eibach setup i just wanted to get some feedback. I have the TRD kit and i plan to lower it, but how hard will it be to get a floor jack underneath my car. It allready cuts it close, it just rests on the body kit. I know the drop isn't that signifigant but that might be just enough so i can't get the jack under :( I also have a street glow underlight kit, but i'm not too worried about that

Buy a low profile racing jack works great with lowered cars, and their light weight easy to handle.
