Rattling Noise when Driving

Rattling Noise when Driving

Postby NeFaRiOuS_SLE » Tue Sep 06, 2005 10:20 pm

Hi all:

Lately when I'm driving, I notice a sound that sounds like the last remaining Tic-Tac being shook in the box (sorry for a lack of a better description) that sounds like it's coming from the right front side of the car. The map pocket in the side of the car is empty, the glovebox has been rearranged (stuff even took out), and a whole variety of passenger seating position changes, but still with the usual culprits taken out, no dice. Please help.

Thank you,

Ed

Actually I think I discovered a solution by accident...

LONG STORY SHORT: Pound on your console armrest.

STORY: I was on the freeway and didn't feel like listening to music, but the god-damned noises started again, so I tried the passenger seat (which usually does the trick), but to no avail. Then I looked inside the center console, but all I had was my CD wallet.

However, I noticed that the rattling stopped when I opened the console, but didn't think much of it until some retarded bitch decided to leave her car square in the middle of the freeway when her car stalled (which you'd definitely have enough momentum to pull to the side AND consider you're going down a slope, [imitating Carlos Mencia] Duh'-Duh'-Duhhhhhhhhh!).

Worst of all, everybody seemed to tailgate each other and not letting me out, and I don't have problems cutting people off since I already drive aggresively. After being stuck for about 30-45 seconds, I just got REALLY pissed off because I was running late for a meeting (damned neighbor had to block my car in), so I started banging on the console lid with my fist.

After finally getting a chance to leave (after cutting off this old geezer, peeling out and swerving into the next lane leaning on the horn with my middle finger out the window ), I noticed the sound actually went away once I pounded it a good few times; hope it doesn't come back anytime soon.

Actually that, to my dismay, didn't last as long as I'd like (probably 3 weeks down the line it'll happen again)... Anyone has a more permanent solution?

thank god! i thought it was just my car. i would suggest taking it to an audio type place. maybe they have the material that can do the trick.... has anyone looked under the seats? you might not want to try this while driving, but have someone else drive and sit in the back. wait young hunter, wait for the noise.... then POUNCE! just some thought.

ha..mine just started doing this too..i havent taken the time to find it yet but i am sure it is the passenger seat

\bang on the seat from the side to remake the sound while sitting still

whoever figures it out first please do post

my guess is plastic against metal somewhere in/under the seat

Well, I noticed one time when I was shifting the seat while the car was in motion (dangerous to do but I didn't care, I was coming home from the club at 2AM and nobody was around), it was still making noise. However, I think it's more from the console for sure (e.g. when I pounced it a few times it stops almost immediately), but I think it's just the acoustic echo of the car's interior that made it sound like it's coming from the seat.

Anyway, I'll take my trusty Hayne's Manual and do some exploration.

it happens to me too. I think it is the passenger seat sensor. It makes the light come on next to the clock when someone is seated there w/o a seatbelt on. It sounds like a spring right?

Probably could be... To me it sounds like someone ratting the last Tic-Tac around in its box (sorry for a lack of a better description).
