Better Gas Miles

Better Gas Miles

Postby Siren2387 » Tue Sep 20, 2005 11:46 pm

Does any1 know how to get better milage out of a tank of gas b/c i just put in 13.5 gallons in my car and when i looked at the miles i drove i only got about 17 miles per gallon. I dunno about any1 else but thats really crappy miles and i think it should b getting more. is there something i can do to get better miles out of my car w/ the prices now (even thought they have been going down) 13 gallons of gas costs me $40 and im in college and cant be spending that much on gas and only get 17 miles per gallon and the weird thing is is that i can go 2 weeks on one tank of gas. i dunno any ideas what i can do???

your car is way below average. you need a proper tune up such as replace spark plug, air fuel, radiator flush, alightment. also make sure you have right tire pressure, i think 35psi is ideal?

I just had a lot of that done and thats what worries me ill check my tire pressure maybe thats it. I just had an oxygen sensor changed to and that was supposed to get rid of the check engine but it has come back on again. hummm i am sensing major tune up im my future w/ this car

first and foremost get those tires up to par. i had a problem about getting 17 mpg on once tank of gas once and said HOLY F'in crap. i checked my tires, and guess what, i had a nail on the back left of tire.

What kind of Solara are you driving? Because I have a '99 SLE V6 (auto) and I only get around 19-20mpg in suburban driving (stretches of 1800rpm, 45mph with stops every mile or so). I usually drive at a very mellow pace, ~5mph within the speed limit and slow starts and stops. Yet I'm still getting crappy mileage. I'm gonna check my tire pressure when I get home tonight and see if that's making me have low MPG. I know the Solara is rated for 20 city, so I'm hitting the EPA estimate... but still, this sucks.

It might also make sense to check the air filter while you're at it.

A new faulty O2 sensor is not uncommon... Agree with checking the tires, ect.

try fuel injector cleaner... i always put addictives in my car.... maybe change your oil to thinner oil.... try 5w-30 because thicker oil your motor has to run harder... 5w-30 is pretty thin... change fuel filter? and spark plugs? as noted above. don't worry i get teh same gas mileage and my knock senors are broken
