TRD Package

TRD Package

Postby drock03 » Fri Sep 23, 2005 9:48 am

I'm looking at a 99 solara right now with the TRD package. The guy really doesn't know too much about it. Is this a factory option? Does it only included ground effects, rims and lowered suspension? This car is a 99 with 80K on it, silver, black leather, 5spd....what do you think its worth?? Condition seems to be flawless. I can't get an accurate read on value because TRD package is not an option on NADA or KBB
Thanks!

If I recall the complete TRD package did come with the Kit, lowered suspension, rims and I think Bilstein struts. Also you need to remember the actual TRD kit is discontinued and they're getting rarer and rarer to find. IMO that's pretty low mileage for a 99 and should be worth around 10k or 11k. Don't take my word for it, it's just my 2 cents.

Yep that right. . . unless he added the TRD Muffler and S/C which will be a nice addition :D

If it's a 5 speed V6, than that makes it even more rare. Low miles, TRD package, 5 speed V6 - seems like a winner to me!

VERY nice find! I wouldn't disclose that location, I want it! Silver, Black leather and 5 speed! Very nice. It seems like most SEs were purchased with the cloth interior. As said before, finding a 5 speed is rare. Now to your question.

In 99, if you had a dealer that knew anything about the TRD packages, it was rare. When I ordered mine, I had lots of money to spend and told the salesman I wanted to see every option available. He never mentioned anything about the TRD packages or they'd have been on there from the start. They had 3 stages of the options. If I remember correctly, they were:

Stage 1 = Ground effects only
Stage 2 = Ground effects and handling package (Eibach springs, Bilstein struts and TRD wheels with Toyo tires)
Stage 3 = Ground effects, Handling package and the Supercharger

You can tell if it has the lowering package by the clearance above the wheel. 2 finger gap = handling package, SUV clearance = stock. Of course the sc is a dead give away. I'm not sure if the rear sway bar was part of the handling package or not and the TRD exhaust might have been part of the stage 3 kit? As a guess, I'd say at least $12K. -JoeB

Thats the price for the non TRD package ones.. Look at all the blue book value.. Nothing mentioned about the TRD with it.. If a new solara was 23 grand if I remmeber correctly new for the 2000 model, and the full TRD package made it jump to almost or over 30 grand brand new... Ahaha no way its worth only 9 or 10 grand used.. Its more like in the 12s. That tells you how rare this option is..

I really doubt that the TRD package will even be used in the calculation of the residual value or fair market. You might be able to get an enthusiast to pay for it but not general market. Its a 99 with 80k on it. Eh....but what do I know

Just this summer I bought a 99 SLE, no TRD package, with 92K miles unjustified for just over $10,000 including license and registration. My car isn't exactly flawless either, it has a few parking lot marks, nothing serious and some scratches on the rear fender where some one was incapable of loading their luggage properly...either way, if you can get it for around 10 I would suggest if you're really serious about this car then go for it, you won't find a better a deal.

Definitely DO NOT let the TRD get in your head, play the owner like it's nothing special to you, if he knows nothing and doesn't pick up any hints, you'll be making a steal, trust me 10K or better maybe more like 10.5, trust me on this. Aftermarket upgrades hold absolutely no additional value when dealing with the general public, like he said, unless the owner is an enthusiast.

Don't forget about the Long Beach Grand Prix edition. Those have +20 HP off the bat (w/o supercharger). If it's the limited edition, then it'll have its numner on the shifter (#x of 30)... I think it was 30 cars...
