RIMS OFF A 06 CAMRY SE

RIMS OFF A 06 CAMRY SE

Postby SERGIOELSOL » Sat Sep 24, 2005 7:24 am

hey guys. well, this is the deal. i have a 99 se with tokico shocks and tein springs installed. i managed to get a hold of a brand new set of rims and tires off a 06 camry se (the ones just like the solara convertible, but gunmetal color), BUT THE INSIDE OF THE LEFT REAR RUBS AGAINST THE SHOCK ASSEMBLY!! :( wierd enough, the right rear, and the fronts clear with no issues.

anyone familiar with this issue?

has anybody installed these new 17" offerings in their solara? (i've seen pictures on this board of guys with the 17's off the new solara) if so, what did you do to get them to clear? frankly, i don't want to have to roll the fenders, or get spacers. these are 215/55/17 tires with a 17" "stock" toyota rim; THERE SHOULD BE NO ISSUES!!!!

if this does'nt work out, i'll literally have to sell these things to someone in the local area (miami-ft. lauderdale). anyway, any help would be GREATLY appreciated).

The new Gen2 Solara's 17's rub on a Gen1, so I dont see why the Gen5's camry's 17s wouldnt.

You'll need to get spacers. for the rear.

The fact that its just one side is really weird tho

are you serious? well, that SUX.

is it all suspension geometry? more room in the gen 2's wheel well's? hubs further out from the shock assembly vs. gen 1?

has anyone out there managed to get the camber adjusted in the rears somehow (since toyota says that there is no rear wheel camber adjustment possible)? this way, i can get the top of the tire away from the bottom of the spring seat, and the inside part of the tire away from the shock assembly.

if spacers are the only way to do, so be it.

weird that its only right rear!?!?!?!? :o

But its good to advoid spacers.. They put stress on the Hub...

If only one sides rubbing, you probably dont need much of a spacer.

i think 5mm or less is OK. 2mm will probably be fine for you.

you could try the tire size 215/50/17...tht might not rub.

or spacers is the way to go.

I gave up gettin rims for the same reason and confusion. I got snow tires(i live in chicago) and HID's for myself instead ...and i'm happy !

The rims on the Gen 5/5.5 Camry/Gen 2 Solara have a higher offset (rim is closer to the middle of the car) than the Gen 1 (rims are closer to the fender)

You may need a 10mm space... if that's the case, spend the money and get the proper spacer (forged one). Cheap 10mm spacers crack over time and your wheel WILL fly off.

thanks for the input guys.

i'm gonna play with the left rear knuckle to see what I can do. when i was doing my cross-drilled rotors and steel-braided lines, i really messed with it (and the hub of course) trying to get the rotor off. got a feeling i can get things to shift just a hair, for my benefit. again, since it seems i CAN clear (right rear is fine).

unfortunately, since cash flow isn't really available right now (and gas is a BIATCH), i can't be getting new tires, or springing for some fancy spacer/longer studs just to get the rims on.

i may just have to sell these things, we'll see (actually hope not to have to). btw, anyone insteresed in a brand new set of gumetal 17's with brand-new tires (center caps and studs included)? lol...........

I have a 15mm Forged spacer i used for the old set of 17's.

it comes with seperate lugs so you dont have to worry about putting too much stress on the stock lugs.

Im asking $50 plus shipping.
Pm me if your interested.
