Squealing

Squealing

Postby SpikedMantis » Thu Oct 06, 2005 2:27 pm

This started about last week. Whenever I'm NOT pressing the brake, my car squeals when above 20 mph. Even when I accelerate it still squeals. Does anyone know what's going on? I'm going to bring it in, but I just want an idea of what might be happening.

Not sure, but I can hear it even when the windows are rolled up. I'm thinking it's coming from the engine.

Have you changed your timing belt? Not sure what it could be, but have it checked out asap.

Does it sound like a flock of angry bats? If so I'm gonna point my finger at the belts as well.

Haha!

No, but seriously it's probably the belts. Althoguh I couldn't explain why it doens't happen under 20MPH.

One of your belts might be loose. . . usually squeaking of belts is a sign of slipping

Well, I took it in today and the tech said that I need a new timing belt and my brakes don't have shims, whatever that means. Basically, it's going to be about $675.

It's nice to see someone with an appreciation for the fine line between screetching and squealing.

Anywho, 675 for what? the now timing belt? Or a new timing belt and brakes?

All installed?

Im guessing that its the soft metal wear indicator signaling that your brakes are worn out.
