Do you mean the bottom half of the intake box????
Did you take out the snorkel???
Yeah i've found light brown grass, and some small nuts, and a dead fly once.
That normal if you took off you snorkel.
It does take in more air wit out the snorkel.
Will need to clean mine soon too, big grayist; black spot on it....

Got tired of mice nesting in the air intake box (nuts and more nuts, also nice nesting material to restrict air filter and mouse s**t, common with all cars), ended up installing a metal screen at start of intake snorkel. Screen small enough to keep mice out but does not restrict air intake airflow (1/4" holes). I was thinking that eventually they could even chew thru the air filter and enter intake manifold. This mod is done to all my cars.
If you take off the intake snorkel, aren't you now sucking in warmer air from the engine compartment, I thought cold air was better?

yes it will. thts why u should always leave ur intake box in tact unless ur doing a full CAI. leaving the box on restricts air but ive found if u have an aftermarket filter with the stock box it gives u a decent torque boost with very minimal hp gain. throwing a SRI wont do anything at all and is pretty much pointless...im pretty sure u would lose hp. and if u do a full CAI you will gain some hp with a very minimal loss of torque at the low end

so i should put my snorkel back on? I really couldnt tell a difference with it on and off except on highway speeds it had a little more kick.

i can vouch for that. i jsut had my SRI installed tonight by StockSolara...i dont like it. torqueness of my car beforehand is kinda non-existent. i have my UPFD cae at home but i jsut wanted to see what a stand-a-lone SRI would do. like brad said..just go for the whole set up from the get go.
