have a question...

as you know my stereo stuff got stolen last week and state farm has given these two choices

pay 500(deductible) and get everything replaced brand new, installed and if they cant get what I had I get the newest or better version of it

pay 500(deductible) and get a check of what everything was worth (so whatever the worth is...at a discounted price -500(deductible) which is what I would be getting prob around 600.

what would you do?

depends if you still want the stereo stuff or not. if you gonna just take the money and get a new stereo system, you might as well have them get the same thing and installed

If the insurance company was going to give you the depreciated value of the stolen equipment, I'd get the same items reinstalled. Depending on how old it was, odds are the mfg has changed part #s. This means you'll most likely get a unit that's an upgrade from what you had.

Id get the system only if you have enough money in the bank to get an alarm now. :)

If State Farm is willing to replace your old system with a brand-new system, IMHO, it'd be an idiotic choice to settle for the deprecated value.

Seems to me the value equation comes out _way_ in your favor getting it replaced.

Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade. I mean, who else would give you a new system (probably covering installation) instead of a check that you can give yourself for $100 more than what you're paying for your deductible?
