System Causes Check Engine Light?

System Causes Check Engine Light?

Postby Mossy » Thu Oct 20, 2005 1:18 pm

I have had my 15 inch Kicker Subs for about 1 month now.

Today, I hooked up a 400 watt, 800 watt peak, Husky Converter.

I hardwired with a large distribution off my amp power cable. I hooked up my PS2 and switched it on, I had the RCAs running outside the door and to the trunk for a test. I watched a movie for about 20 mins, then decided to route the wires.

I routed the wires and all that and before I put the glovebox, and trim pieces back, I fiqured I should test it out to make sure nothing came lose.

I started it up and get a check engine light, So I disconnected the power converter, Still got a check engine light. I disconnected my fuse @ the battery. Started it up the check engine light was gone.??

I did not get a code?

Any idea what caused this?

I had the dash center out, the clock, hazards, cig connections were un-done, the glove box was out, the side trim pieces were out.

Any idea?

I want to try and reinstall tommorrow. :(

1st: an OBD-II scanner is the best investment any DIY-er can make if they want to T/S their car. You wouldn't have to guess if there was a dumb emissions doo-dad malfunction that happened to be at the same time as your system install.

2: Will a low voltage cause the CEL light to come on? Or perhaps high charging current? you said that you watched a movie for a while before you started it up... might have drained the battery enough to fool the computer?

It was running the whole time I had the movie on, I turned everything off while I worked on the car, I disconnected and reconnected the battery as well before I shut the hood, I suspect a false code that got reset. Any other ideas?

Thanks Sentinel. When I turned it on and got no code I was on my way to get it checked :)
