I have an OEM bra purchased from the dealership for $100. Its been great to me for highqway driving. (i agree it looks goofy cus to some its an eyesore). I have to remove my front valances to make the bra fit (so if you are not trd kitted, then you have no problem). As long as you keep the underside clean, you will have no scratches...I've had an OEM bra on my ES since 1994...on the whole, these things are great for highway driving. If i were do it again, i'd go with clear 3m bra, but when i bought my car new, those things were like 700-900 installed...Now prices have come down. Yes they look goofy, but i use them for highway driving whenever needed...thankfully the bumpers' at 80K miles on my solara (or 165K miles on my ES) are still like new!!!

the only problem with the Bra is your paint fading...otherwise it is a good way to save your front end from rock chips..

watch out with the bra, it will not only fade your paint which you could buff out probably. i had a toyota tercel with a bra and it peeled the paint right off. i heared somewhere the paint on the new solaras is easy to chip, so id watch out. check out that invisible bra, i think thats the best bet in this case.

alot of people put bra's on their car thinking it will help protect the paint, and alot of the time it can make it worse. just think about whats gonna happen when sand or small stones get stuck behind the bra and it rubs into your paint. would you rather have that or some scratchs and nicks in the paint. just my 2 cents though

I dont know about the paint fading, I have "front end masks" (to be PC) on three vehicles. Never had any problems. I take them off when it rains, or the rainy season. Wash the cars before putting them back on. I also clean the bra before I put it back on as well. most of the time this is just a bench brush on the bottom side and an armorall wipe on the top side. If the white material is really dirty i will hose it. Main thing is make sure the bra and the body are clean/dry when you put it on, dont let it stay wet and dirty on the body too long either. Its easy, don't worry, youll know when.

I have never tried the 3M clear bras but Im not against them, just dont have enough info yet. If your going to buy one I would reccommend an OEM toyota one. They seem to fit the best. I know they are more expensive, but anything worth doing....

Install is simple, the first time its gonna feel like its too small, this is a good thing, once its on it will form to the car. Gotta replace two screws in the wheel wells. Might want to recruit another set of hands to get it on the fist time. If you have a body kit the bras wont fit.

Hope that helps

I've had bra's before, and paint faiding is dependant on what kind of bra you buy. Like mentioned above, our Es has 165K miles, and its always has its bra on...the paint on the underside is clay/polished/waxed once a year and there are no noticable scratches or paintfades/dis-coloration. We bought the lexus bra (OEM). People who complain of paint fading did one of the following:
1. didn't clean the undeside of bra - DOH! (everything needs cleaning)
2. they bought a cheap bra

I bought my front end mask from the dealership, and used it regularly for the first 3 years. This protected my front end very well, and I also did regular cleanings etc... However, since being in college, I have not had the privelage of having facilities for regular cleanings and have not used the mask nearly as much. My front end has most definitely gotten alot worse in the past 4 years. I would def rccoemned and OEM mask as long as you take care of it. As previously mentioned, it installs via two buttons in the wheel well, and various other little hooks.

paint chips are the worst. it looks horribleeeee on the car and you guys are saying it fades the paint and might even chip the paint,so i dont think there's any winning with the bra, i wouldnt waste the $$

I'd just use it for long drives to keep the bugs off the front bumper and then take it off afterwards.

Anybody got one for a 1st gen.......let me know.
