Extended Warranty questions

Postby aleath » Mon Jan 06, 2003 10:05 pm

I was looking at the extended warranty from a Toyota dealership and was wondering how many people have bought this.

the dealer quoted me $780 for 6 years / 75000 miles. I'm going to get a few more quotes.. what did anyone else pay?

Does anyone have any recommendations on the extended warranty.. is it worth it? Any comments would be appreciated.

I think I paid around $550-600. Is that 6 years from the original purchace date, or 6 extra years? Mine is 6 years from original date, or 100k mi. I'd say it's definately worth it. And it's one of the main reasons I chose the 4cyl, over a 6 that didn't qualify for the extended(not toyota certified). I don't know how it is with yours, but with mine there's a $50 deductible for each time warranty work is done at one time. So if there's 3 different problems it's still 50 if you present them all at once.

I didn't get it, but I guess it all comes down to how often and in what conditions you'll be using the car. Under normal circumstances, I doubt it's worth the money. They're Toyotas, and any mfrs errors will be evident within the basic warranty period.

The warranty I'm looking at is 6 years / 75000 miles from the original purchase date.

I've still got to get quotes from a few other dealers.. compared to what 4banger paid my first quote of $780 is high

Warranty

The Powertrain on the I4 or V6's is extended to 6yr/80k, even with the stock warranty of 6yr/60k you're paying so much more for 15k extra. Jon.

But that's just power train, the extended warranty covers most reasonable things. I think it's worth it for the peace of mind. Plus if you plan to sell the car with in the warranty period, it is transferable and would help you sell the car.

Depends on how you negotiate the mileage on the Platinum or lower extended warranty. If you know how to negotiate, you can push the mileage to 100k without paying an extra dime for it. I've done so including $0 deductable on any extended warranty work during a fleet purchase of a new 03 Corolla S 5spd for a friend of mine just last Thursday.

i'd wait till your factory warranty is up to even start worrying bout an extended warranty. i hate seeing people who i do roadside for in work that buy like 5year extended warrantys that start from the in service date. how does that extend anything? it will expire at the same time. :(

i was going to buy one, and the price was scaled based on year/mileage of car. like if i wanted one for my 99 it was like 700$ b/c i was under 40k..but once you hit 40k it was a little more. don't quote me on that price tho, i don't remember how much it was cause i didn't buy it.
