Burlwood dash trim

Burlwood dash trim

Has anybody had any problems with their wood trim? I have an '01 Solara. Here in Texas we have a really hot sun (I should have used a windshield sun screen). Anyway, this hot sun caused the top layer of plastic to peel off of the simulated wood. Its ruined.
My question is has anybody removed their trim and is there an easy way to do it?
I contacted the dealer for a price on a new dash kit and they say that they are no longer available. Ebay to the rescue. I see Ebay has a couple different manufacturers to choose from. Any recommendations?

Im glad to see someone finally has the same problem as me. I have made no progress on mine after about 5 months of wanting to get it done. As In I still dont know which place to buy from or what to get.

I remember richd had a groupbuy going for a bit that never panned out so he might be able to help with factory match for you. As for taking it off I dont know, I was just planning on taking it somewhere if I had to because I dont want to screw anything up any worse than it is.

I know people have sanded it down and paint matched it, looked pretty good on the charcoal interior.

I'm not positive, but I think if you use a fine grit sandpaper, some adhesion promoter-like stuff, and paint, you should be ok.

Hey,

Yah I had the same problem as you, like all the pieces were either peeling up, or discolored. I found that the best way is to take a hair dryer and heat up the trim that you want to take off, by heating it up it will undo the stickiness. Do a search online, like in google or something(type woodgrain dash kits) my kit was about 180 bucks and it comes with instuctions and all that stuff. I'm happy with it. If you have any questions just let me know.

i agree with andy i would definatly just sand them down, smooth them out and throw a coat of paint on them, i like the wood but if it got messed up id rather have the paint :) looks a little sportier
