Tires Rubbing (please help)

Tires Rubbing (please help)

Suggestions Needed:

I recently replaced a set of 18" rims (on my 02 Solara w/ TRD lowering springs) for a new set but I kept my original tires (225/ 40/ 18). I now notice that my tires are rubbing on the inside lip of the fender, but just barely (I guess it has something to do with the rim offset). This is all alien to me. What should I do? Should I take my Solara to have the inside of the rear fenders shaved off? Is there another solution? I guess my biggest concern are the rims. I hope I didn't buy the wrong ones because I don't know if I can return them. Lots of help needed. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Thanks!

Yeah you got the wrong offset. Im assuming the front doesnt rub, all you have to do is have the rear fenders rolled or have some one cut 1/2 inch of off the lips.

Roll your fender. Do not cut it.

If it still rubbing... perhaps you gotta change the rims.
Correct offset should be from 35-45.

My offset is 35, it was rubbing but after I rolled my fender, it's ok.

It cost me about $50. It's not a very complicated job. Just be sure you get someone who knows what they are doing.

As others have said, it's probably the offset. Do you know what the offset of your new wheels is. Also, what is the width of your wheels. If you went to a wider wheel, that could have caused the problem, as well. If the rubbing is caused by either one of these, rolling the fender lips will solve it. Otherwise, you'll need to buy new wheels.

Rubbing Tires

Postby buddha » Thu Jan 16, 2003 9:39 pm

Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions regarding my problem (rubbing tires). I went to an 18'' rim with a different offset, 42 this time, and that solved everything. So again, thanks for the info.
