Does anyone elses struts come loose with normal driving? I had my dad replace the rear struts, and I don't know if it's his workmanship, or if its the car.

Anyone else have that problem with their struts? It's damn annoying!

I think if you replace your struts, the screws that hold them up could back up a bit making them loose. Your suppose to go back maybe like a month after and retighten them to ensure they haven't backed up. Someone else on here with more experience might want to back me up on this though.

I know he didn't use air-gun tools. Does that really make a difference?

This is the 3rd time that they have come loose so going by what you said Solorange, shouldn't they have been okay after they got retightened the 2nd time?

The struts are made by Monroe. Just your standard struts from Kragen.

It is very easy to screw things up with air tools. The best way is to tighten them to spec. with a torque wrench.
The nature of an impact wrench makes it too easy to over tighten bolts.
(loose is better than too tight: you can always re-tighten something; if the bolt breaks, you're SCREWED!)

Technically yes, But you never know. Sentinel is right, it is best to torque them to the correct spec. Actually I think mine are coming loose too. So Im going to retighten mine on saturday. Another way you could ensure that they dont back up is using some loctite. Just make sure you dont use the really strong stuff or it will be impossible for you to break them loose without a torch later on if need be.

Shocks come loose

We have installed literally hundreds of shocks and struts. The only reason fasteners should come loose is that you are not tightening them enough, which is very common with do it yerselfers who are afraid of overtightening. I would use a torque wrench and some locktight if the problem persists.

On a seperate note, while they may be cheap, Monroe (in my opinion) is a very poor brand. I would recommend KYB if you want something close to stock at a moderate price.

Checked mine yesterday. The bolts are tight so I guess im just being paranoid. That was a waste of two hours.

Blue loctite (can remove with handtools), I *always* torque to spec. (cough, cough), that's why I have 3 different torque wrenches: in-lbs, 5-75ft-lbs, 25-250ft-lbs.(my favorite)
