My brake light has been on for a few days itself but it's been steadily on. I took it in for a maintenance and it's still on and the brake fluid is full. They said I may need a brake flush or something like that. Hope you get your issue resolved. Drive safe in the meantime 8)

No it couldn't be the master cylinder.
It either brake fluid low or need new fluid change............
You will know when you master cylinder goes bad, when you have bleed the brake calipers 4 time at seperate times, and the fluid is normal, and when you have new pads, and when you press the brake pedal it feels mushy.
That how you can tell that your master cylinder is goin' bad like mine.
Been bad since i bought the car. :(
Still tryin' to fab a bracket for a Supra brake master cylinder..................

Brake lite

Postby jim@foreignaffairs » Fri Jan 27, 2006 9:51 am

The brake light goes on due to either a low fluid level or the emergency (parking) brake handle being pulled up. A faulty brake handle switch, or the switch not being held open by the brake handle being slightly out of alignment or engaged may be a cause. There is no sensor that tells the system to light the light when the fluid is in need of changing. So while you may or may not need a fluid change, that does not have anything to do with the light being on.

From my understanding, isnt the Master cylinder for the clutch? or is there a master cylinder for each - the brake and the clutch?

Not necessarily just for the clutch, but if I remember correctly (I'm not a mechanic, just read the some manual a long time ago), they are usually seperate but still use brake fluid. Someone correct me, please?
