Headlight bulb brightness not the same

Headlight bulb brightness not the same

Postby WhiteSLEV6 » Fri Feb 03, 2006 11:11 am

I installed new bulbs on my front headlights and one side seems to be brighter than the other side when i drive towards a mirror to see my light bulb reflection. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

yes, they are new.. Just bought GE Nighthawks and installed it but one side is definitely brighter than the other side.. Both fit perfectly, Highbeams and lowbeams work but you can notice the brightness difference from the 2 bulbs if you stand like 15-20 feet across from the front. Could it be because of a dirty headlamp?

No i used to have Silverstars and it did the same thing but you couldnt really notice the brightness difference like the new GE Nightawks.. I should switch back to Silverstars but they only last me like 5 months until they die out :-? Wanted to test new company's.. Hmm maybe I should try PIAA. The brightness difference is just unbearable right now with these Nighthawks.

It could be your harness. If it happened with silverstars too then, it has to be three things eitiher the harness, one headlamp is aimed to far down and it makes it look like its dimmer, and dirty headlamps. To check if both lights are leveled drive up and turn your lights on against a wall, and check.

I vote for headlight aiming is out of adjustment.

I've the same problem but I bought some cheapo lights to do me until I either got some more silverstars or something else. You can tell a really big difference in mine though cuz the drivers side looks like it's on bright just about. Up against a wall my passenger side is nice and flat just about but my drivers side is all over the place. Is that out of adjustment or what? And if so I really really hate to ask but how do I adjust my headlights?

There is a little bolt on the backside of the headlight casing, you cant miss it. Just find a wrench that fits it and turn it either way till the headlights are perfectly level.

park about 20 feet from a wall squarely and on low beam you should have both beams about 3-4 feet apart centered in relation to the car and they should be about 1-3 feet from the ground on high 3-5 feet

If I'm not mistaken, here in the U.S. the passenger side headlights are brighter than the driver's side. If not brighter then definitely aimed higher.

1. U.S. driver side is on the left. Meaning when you have an incoming traffic the other driver is facing the left headlamp. According to DOT, left side headlamps are supposed to be aimed slightly lower than the right to reduce glare and prevent "blinding" incoming traffic.

Dunno if that's really true but in simple terms it does make sense. I wonder which bored scientists came up with these solutions. What will we do without them..

Maybe we should call the Mythbusters
