I just got my car back from a REAL autoshop. (My dad actually gave in and had my car looked at by someone else) He said, that the mechanic said that it wasn't either of my struts that were making the funny noise that was coming from the back of my car. Instead, he said that it was my sway bar. I kinda don't believe my dad, but he said that the mechanic told him that I will constantly have this problem with the sway bar coming loose if I keep my 18's on my car. It sounds like total bullshit, but I wanted to come on here to ask if anyone else has had an issue with this. I don't see how the tires can affect the sway bar and make the sway bar come loose.

Any feedback would greatly be appreciated.

sway bar

Postby Solara916 » Thu Feb 23, 2006 8:09 pm

It was some small shop here in Sacramento. I actually do trust them.

Well here's a little more info to the story. My car is due for some new tires, and my parents are supposed to buy them, but my dad is a little tight with the $$ when it comes to tires, and he doesn't want to spend the $100+ on each tire. Instead he wants me to put the stock 15's back on so that he doesn't have to pay so much.

I came on here to ask because since the accident, my car hasn't been the same, so I wanted to see if my dad was bullshiting me or if he was really relaying a true statement from the mechanic.

The sound was of something, banging against metal. The sound only happened when I went over bumps or whenever my car was joggled around. The weird thing was, you could totally tell what side of the car the noise was coming from, so that's why I assumed it was the struts. I couldn't think of anything that would be able to come loose like that.

My dad and his friend were the ones that installed my struts in the back , and they didn't have a torque wrench or air gun, so it was tightened by hand. I assumed that because it wasn't a "professional" job, that my struts were coming loose because of that.

I think your dad got the mechanic into it too... due to the fact that hes the one forking out the money to buy tires, as parents they dont like spending on stuff they dont have to like your upgraded 18" tires....

if i were you.... id get a job and take it into my own hands... but of course parents will say if you get a job, then you should save and all that crap

:agrue:

good luck

HAHA...hey...they were the one's that told me to quit my jobs, move back home and go to school full time. I did get a part time job, but they told me to quit. I can't argue with them since I'm living under their roof again.

I had the wheels way before all this happened, so it ain't may fault. :)

Ya it is, but at least now I don't have to worry about rent, bills, or utilities. Well, at least not for awhile. :)

I'm sure my my mom will buy them for me or something. There's no way I'm putting the 15's back on. I worked too hard to get those 18's to just put them in to storage.

Check your rear strut mounts.

Well the noise is gone for now. Whatever the mechanic did, solved the issue.

Go with Kumho Ecsta 712 Supras. There about 100 each and are a good value.

my guess is your offset was bad, so the mechanic change your camber to a bit negative and fix the problem.

however, it is common that trd swaybar making noise (just need good lubrication)

Here you go http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... es&place=2 this is what im buying as soon as I get the cash. Its $425 with 4 tires, road hazard package, and shipping. It may be a bit more for you in the shipping because you live in cali. Oh yeah if you have a trd sway bar its probably just creaking. Mine does it. Ive lubed up the bushings like 2 times now and it just started creaking again.
